Nintendo acknowledged today that hackers broke into one of its servers for its U.S. business, but the company said there was no loss of sensitive company or user data.

The hacker group Lulzsec, which recently defaced PBS and Sony web sites, said that it broke into a Nintendo server and it was not systematically attacking the company. But the danger of the break-in was nowhere near as serious as the hack attack that took down Sony’s 77-million member PlayStation Network for a month.

“The server contained no consumer information. The protection of our customer information is our utmost priority,” said Nintendo of America, the U.S. branch of Nintendo, in an e-mailed statement to Reuters. “We constantly monitor our security.”

Lulzsec posted the results of its Nintendo attack, but the data wasn’t useful from its point of view. It said, “we sincerely hope Nintendo plugs the gap.”

The hacker group Lulzsec took claim for the Nintendo attack–just one more site or company to add to the group’s growing list of successful break-ins. Although Lulzsec did post the results of its Nintendo break-in to Pastebin, the group admitted that its plunder was as minimal as it was unusable.

Does Nintendo even store any user data?

Credit cards are only used to buy Wii store points. You don't login to their network. You use the 16-digit code to communicate with other Wiis. The only thing you have that IDs you is your Mii.

^^^ lol, I can't remember ever entering any... I'm sure I have at some point.

Colin: Agreed. I'm curious why XBox (seeing as how it's controlled by the "evil empire") has been spared thus far. Nintendo is like the freaking brady bunch of consoles, I figured they would be last.
