MX-5 GT
Mazda has unveiled a GT version of the Mazda MX-5 that will race in the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship 2011.

The MX-5 GT is going to take on Aston Martin, Porsche and BMW with a total weight just over 1,700 pounds and a 275-hp 2.0L engine that is mated to a six-speed sequential paddle-shift transmission. That combination is good enough for 0-60 mph in three seconds and a top speed of 160 mph.

Carbon fiber doors and polycarbonate windows help keep the weight down. The Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship is this weekend, March 26th.

Definitely not a road going version.... but I bet that thing would be a BLAST to drive.

I am surprised it's an open top car though.

Why? With the cage, you don't need the top to stiffen the chassis.

Obviously, but I'm thinking more about aerodynamics.

Maybe the cage design? haha. I don't see where anyone could say anything bad about this.

That is actually a good point. I can think of one other, weather.
This does take place in Britain after all and in March. I would think a top to keep the elements out, would not add much weight to the car and might even lower the wind resistance as well.

I so want Mazda to make some version of this available to the public.
