Spool it up at 1080p and sit back... Developers have this engine right now and it scales for everything: triple GTX580's to the iPhone 3GS.

Probably true... It will be cheaper and we'll still get charged the same 13$ for a movie. Just like the transition from cassettes to CD's...

Access to simple and cheap cross platform engines will kill the industry. Too many developers begun to make something and thinking it is cool. It is really a coming crises in the industry. We saw something like this in 1998-2001 in my opinion. However, the new consoles saved the situation, but they bring the problem of the overproduction of “grey” products.

I skipped around to some of the other questions and it was a very interesting read. I think that it's funny that a year ago a lot of places were calling for the end of PC gaming because of piracy... but now they realize that the PC is where it is at.

While I understand the reason that they give for the graphics engines being responsible for poor ports from console to PC, I think that having graphics engines like this has lead to a huge boon to the indie game makers. I'm very happy to see more development in the actual game vs. writing a gaming engine for every single game out there.
