'06 STi Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Disable questions

Good morning and get ready for a lengthy post to wrap your heads around! =D

Yesterday I installed a Pioneer AVH-3200dvd head unit into my car and came across quite the debacle. For understandable reasons I'm unable to view video on my head unit while the E-brake is disengaged. I found a youtube tutorial on how to do an E-brake bypass which will fool the car into thinking the E-brake is always engaged; however, with the '06 STi the lights only come on when the E-brake is disengaged so even if I DID the bypass I wouldn't have lights. So I looked into disabling the '06 STi DRL disable and now I'm wondering if I disabled them how would I get my lights to function with the DRL disabled, I imagine the car doesn't have a regular light switch like other cars do because it was made to run with the DRL when the E-brake was disengaged.

I hope this post makes sense and before I ask a series of confusing questions that I have I'll simply graciously ask for any suggestions hopefully one of you DCAWD badasses have already tangoed with this perplexing electrical beast.

there's got to be another way around that... i seriously wouldn't disable your drls. they've been proven over and over to increase visibility and reduce accidents.

i've got an older avic-n1 (or d1, i don't really remember which) and found a way to bypass the parking brake security.

you might want to check out avic411 and look around for another solution.

pioneer typically leaves a pin open in their main molex to allow dealers to put their products in "demo mode."

Colin,

Thanks for the quick reply bro. I've heard that after you disable the DRL you can switch your lights on just the same as a car without DRL. I understand and appreciate the visbility concern, but as long as I turn the lights on they should operate at the same capacity as if the DRL were still enabled; I mean disabling the DRL shouldn't make the overall lights any less effective just means they're not automatically turned on when the ebrake is disenaged right?

here's another thought...

don't screw with your lights.

spend a wallet-busting $10, and buy a bypass module from these folks

still get your lights and your dvds...while driving.

Just a FYI, you might not pass a state inspection without the DRL's :( If there are lights on a car (stock, after market, whatever), they are required to work :/

this might help :)

Looks like this is the video to make it work:

According to this post it works for the 4200 also.
