9-to-5 Mac article
A security hole in iPhone 4 software allows you to make a call after dialing a few pound signs and timing a few others as found by a MacForums member.

When you iPhone is locked with a passcode tap Emergency Call, then enter a non-emergency number such as ###. Next tap the call button and immediately hit the lock button. It should open up the Phone app where you can see all your contacts, call any number, etc.
I'm not too surprised that this exists honestly...

i thought this was older news, no?

either way, ouch!

(it also appears similar issues plague both the Droid 2 and Droid X.)

IIRC you can use a sync cable, plug an iPhone into a linux box and see everything on the drive.

I don't even lock my phone. I'm more likely to lock myself out than stop anyone who is actually motivated about getting my contacts.

just tried it on my iphone4.

yikes. it works. but you have to time it PERFECTLY or it just goes back to the locked screen.

however, i'm still on jailbroken 4.1. the issue has supposedly been fixed as of ios 4.2.
