Install Froyo on an iPhone Without Your PC's Help

Instructions on Redmond Pie
Probably the most easiest way to install Android on an iPhone 2G/3G is via iPhoDroid, which we did cover previously. But the problem with it is; you should have a computer to run the whole process of installing Android on your iPhone 2G/3G. But thanks to Bootlace 2.1, you can now install Android 2.2.1 Froyo on your jailbroken iPhone without needing to connect it to any PC or Mac!

To kick things off, Bootlace 2.1 is only compatible with the following iPhones and iOS’:
iPhone 2G running iOS 3.1.2 and 3.1.3.
iPhone 3G running iOS 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2 and 4.1.
And the jailbreaking tools which are supported by Bootlace 2.1 are:

PwnageTool
Redsn0w
Blackra1n
If I thought it would run better/faster, I would do this in a heartbeat.

i've seen a ton of articles (reposts mainly) regarding the open iboot tool and specifically the installation of froyo.

what i haven't seen, is additional information on the actual use of froyo on the iphone. last update i could find on the project (a year ago) said that battery management hadn't even been implemented.

perhaps i should do some more googling.

I've got a 1G iPhone I was using as an iPod and I bricked it last night (updated iTunes and it automatically updated the phone as well).

Any ideas? I'm not going to sign up for AT&T as I just use it for an iPod on my desk at work.

see if you can get it into dfu mode and restore/update from there.

if you can get it into dfu mode, you can probably google around for an older .ipsw file.

gotta agree. this is for pure e-street cred and serves no actual purpose.

thanks. I'll give it a shot. Will the older version still lock me down? I don't care about using this for anything other than music (i.e. its paid for and 8GB is enough to keep me entertained at work).

what do you mean by still lock you down?

if you are able to dfu-mode-and-flash-to-earlier-.ipsw, it will be a "stock" ipsw.

btw, here you go.

I have a stock image on their now from the update. It sees no AT&T SIM and locks the device down to only 'emergency service'. I cannot access the home screen whatsoever. So, I need to roll back to the latest version that could be hacked or sold without a plan (I think I had 1.3.1 or something on it).

oh, gotcha. so it's booting and all, just stuck at the activation screen, right?

it's been a minute since i've done this, but there should be a jailbreak tool that will "activate" a 1G phone. pwnage tool used to do it.

exactly. I had z something for the hack originally (on my old work computer). Guess just start from scratch then? will it still have my files on it or does it take it back to a base config? Don't much care.....all the music is on my NAS box anyways.

if it was an upgrade, everything should still be there iirc. just needs actamavationizing.

edit: i think i'm wrong. i think it wipes everything when upgrading the iOS. hopefully itunes did the whole restore thing after the iOS upgrade.

said eff it and got ZiPhone again. its loading the stuff now...we'll see how it works out.

next step is to de-dup my library - I've got 'ghost' files showing in iTunes...not sure how to clean those out except one-by-one (a PITA).
