Hmm. Scratch that I guess.
The whole cots unplug+plug-in ez upgrade thing had some appeal.
Once I have a car and I decide to do things to it, I'll have to run it by you [guys].
Again, thanks for putting it in perspective.

Sadly, I'll be waiting till Feb probably.
All the down time makes me think/talk about it too much.
Blame the guy who let me drive his STI for getting me all excited :-\.

Given a recent spree of craigslist listings, there are a few used evos in the immediate area right now (Usually there are none, with the odd sti every few weeks). I'm trying to see if any of them are a good deal.

Here is one I think is interesting :

9 MR SE

Miles: 8,550

Mods:
Apex’i Noir exhaust
DC Sports 2 in 1 down pipe with test pipe
Hallman manual boost controller
K&N drop in filter
Blitz DCII turbo timer
ACT HD clutch (700 miles on it)

He says it was broken in, didn't go over 3k rpm for first 1k miles.

Tracked 3 or so times. 20 drags. Clutch replaced 700 miles ago.

At the moment, I think the guy is asking way too much in my opinion (31k).

What would be a reasonable price for a car like this?

And is it even worth considering (mechanics + driving-record wise)?

Ask for a leakdown and compression test, then offer him 28k ;)

BTW, the leakdowns (if they are like STI motor's) should be below 6% and the compression above 135 PSI or so.

Yeah my leakdown was < 3% on all and the compression test was 150 PSI across teh board.

Well, after thinking about it, I guess that evo doesn't seem like that great of a prospect.
If he managed to kill the clutch with such low mileage, the car has probably been worked-out thoroughly.
I'll still check it out in person just to see what it's like. No reason not to.

Plenty of used STI's on craigslist too.

One of them is even *gasp* bone stock.

Anyone think that any of those 4 links is extra worth looking into?

No warning lights are going off in my mind for any of them.

The first one would be my choice.
$30k for a STi limited (my fav) with 10K miles a Cobb TBE and a Protune from a reputable local tuner. That's not too shabby.

He bought an STI and never launched it? *BULLSHIT* *COUGH*

I'll take a look at that STI limited.

I might also take a look at these two others:

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ ... 71021.html

They are stock, so it gives me a better impression of the driver.
Plus I think white looks really nice.

A bit flashy. (thinking the hood)
I'm sorta interested in that 'limited' because it's more on the down-low + interior is nicer.

I'm still entertaining the 08 STI, EVO9, LGT, etc. Exploring the used market.

So, why would you want to get rid of it?
I mean, it looks like you put some effort into pimping it out and all that...

I don't know why really. I guess I get bored easy. Love both of my cars. Just throw things out there and see what happens.

So, I test drove that EVO I mentioned above.

The car is pristine. Well kept in and out.
It was a good impression.

I wouldn't feel bad getting that leakdown done for it.

Where would I get that taken care of (where would you all recommend I guess), and how much does it cost?

Update.

The guy with that evo is selling it to someone else.

I met another guy who has a stock evo 9 MR with 18k on it.
I'll have this second one tested. If it works out then I will probably get it.

All in all I like the car. I like the shape and the colours. It drives really fun, like a giant go-kart. The steering is a bit squirly, but entertaining. It's fun, what can I say.

edit : And if it turns out that I don't like it later on... hell I'll just flip (re-sell, not destroy) it. Life goes on.

So, I bought an evo 9 MR.

The one that I said was pretty much stock.
(has a cat-back. No tune or anything)

I finally got it registered and took it out for my first real drive tonight.
(Btw, new taxes cost me 550 bucks more today than it would have last week. Owned.)

All in all I'm super stoked.
I smile like a retard when I drive it.
And the steering is scary. I mean that literally.

You do realize that is due to the very quck steering ratio of the EVO (13.0:1 compared to the the STi's 15.2:1 and 2.1 turns to lock vs. 2.7 on the STi). It is one of the few things that bother me about the EVO. At no time can you not be 100% involved with the car. While that pays big dividends on the track. On the poor road quality we enjoy here in everyday driving, the steering feels nervous and twitchy. Try going from grooved asphalt to concrete to a steel grate at 60+mph (like you might on almost any bridge crossing) and you will feel your pulse rate triple as your white knuckle grip presses permanent indentations into the steering wheel. While I love the EVO, it would be one of my last picks for a 12+ hour long multi-state drive. It is not surprising that most of the folks I know with EVOs have some other car for long trips.

Enjoy the car, make sure you bring it out to some meets.
