I'm OK (I guess) with the hatchback and the new nose but the wing is bad. just bad.
so how difficult is a hatchback swap?

I am hearing now that the rear wing will not make it to the US...fine by me!...and do you really need that on the hatchback?
But it looks as though those wanting a rear wiper on their STi's will get it.

Don't think so. I've never liked hatchbacks. Liftbacks like the Trans Am are cool. Hatchbacks? Neh, sorry, wrong number. At least with the 06 there was only a grill I had to get used to.

I am liking the dual exhaust as well.

I'm going to make a prediction based on our collection of rumors, along with the latest drawings.
If the following are true:
1) they are dropping the name 'Impreza'
2) they are basing the new hatchback on the Legacy platform
3) they are dropping the WRX line
4) it will be produced in Lafayette, IN
This all adds up in my head to:
1) the hatchback will just be 'Legacy hatchback'
2) it will come in 2.5i, 2.5GT, and (drumroll) STI versions.
This makes sense for Subaru since they will produce only one chassis for 3 cars (and maybe the Forrester when its updated?). It would also come in time to respond to Mitsu launching a larger, sleeker Lancer. Subaru may have seen increasing the interior volume of the Impreza as counter-productive since the Legacy already exists. What they needed was a more compact version of the lengthy midsize for the youth crowd --> enter the hatchback.
For those thinking that's a bad thing, consider:
1) a stock LGT can outperform a stock WRX in straight line.
2) every 300whp WRX I've seen has required a turbo, intercooler and injector upgrade. With the LGT its only intake and exhaust. So its easier to 'STI' an LGT than it is a WRX.
3) the LGT limited is the same cost and loaded with all the features of a WRX limited
Like I said, its just a prediction after looking at the popular drawings and sightings. Technically they can call it whatever they want, but the death of the Impreza is not my opinion of what 'should' happen.

well the impreza replaced the legacy as the flagship... they used the legacy as their rally car for all those years and then introduced the impreza and met with amazing success... im not sure if they want to take a step back in time and reintroduce legacy as their main-model. not saying it couldnt happen though.
in my opinion if they drop the impreza name it hink they are going to come out with something new.

My hope is that
if the Impreza goes on hold for 2008, it will be re-introduced as an AWD sports coupe for 2009/10. Subaru has to be eying that market. (all conjecture, i know).

other than the wing, I think it's OK. will have to see it in person before passing final judgment. sort of looks like a Mazda3.

Hey I liked the baja, just not the masses did. That is all I am hinting at.
And yes, I love my grocerygetter. Few baby haulers can get to 60 in the 4's.
Here is my love that I should be getting back tonight after Dan gives the okay:

Nice forester, I love the rims. Needs a drop, and she will be really pretty then.
Have you seen the Forester STI commerical over in Japan? Talk about sweet.

Thanks. Yeah, I have some JDM Forester STi pink springs in my basement waiting to go on. What is a FSTi? Never heard of that before:

Official!

Subaru's New York debut has been blown by Motor Trend. The May issue of MT is starting to hit the news stands over a week before the car was to debut at the New York Auto Show, much to Subaru's displeasure, I'm sure.
It sounds like the engine and trannys are carryovers from the '07 WRX,
or at least are just tweaked versions of what's now on the market. The
wheelbase has grown, so you can expect more rear legroom. The wagon is
no more, but is replaced by a snappy looking 5-door hatch. The sedan
remains. The dash now has a space for a navigation unit, probably in combination with the radio.
NABISCO coverage.
Comparison:
Grill looks Ford and the rest was copied from a Mazda 3...
Very sad day for me....
