Remove that boxer badge from the top of the fender and I like the profile. I see a little Maserati in that fender profile.
They cleaned up the front clip, thank goodness they ditched the Pep-Boys LED strip.
The rear has a lot of the last generation Celica but that's OK, so many cars have horrible rear ends these days I'll take a copy of an OK rear.
I like the interior a lot.

Overall I like it.

Now about that turbo...

motor is anemic.....guess it's not bad for a 2.0L though. 227hp from a 2.0T, remember?

Some think the 2.0T was underrated at 227. And even if 227 was accurate It was a simple reflash to get to near 240, a DP and reflash away from around 255, and a turbo/injector swap away from 330.

It looks good, it should handle good, now comes the wait for a turbo version.

^^^ HAHA, TRUTH!

Looks like a 350Z/Impreza/Genesis coupe lovechild :) Not that that is a bad thing, I like the looks. I'm very curious to see a turbo'ed version, but I don't think that I'd object to this either as long as I was driving alone (extra people = extra weight). I am curious about compression, gas (type) and such. If uses low octane fuel, there is room to up the power output *a little* with a tune.

Worst subtitles ever, they didn't translate any of what he was saying about the car.

I like the looks, I'll definitely consider one.

That is exactly the size I want. Just slightly more headroom and a bit more wheelbase than my MX-5.

Subaru Unveils the Production BRZ Coupe - Little more info, true? Who knows...
Two days ago, Toyota officially took the wraps off the 86 and GT 86 sports coupe and now Subaru has unveiled its version of the coupe that developed with Toyota. The Subaru BRZ is debuting this week at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The Subaru BRZ is pretty much identical to the Toyota version, which means it's powered by the same 2.0L horizontally-opposed boxer engine. Subaru states that the BRZ will put out 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft. of torque, compared to 197 horsepower and 151 lb-ft. in the Toyota version. The boxer engine can be mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and sends its power only to the rear wheels. The Subaru BRZ weighs 2,689 lbs and rides on standard 17-inch wheels.

in terms of styling, the BRZ mainly differs from the Toyota with a different front fascia and a slightly modified rear. Which one do you like better?

Subaru BRZ isn’t a more powerful Toyota GT 86
Jalopnik wrote:The last big thing we didn't know about the Subaru BRZ? Horsepower. A big deal because it was still unclear just how mechanically similar it would be to the Toyota GT 86. Well, it turns out they make an identical 197 HP and 151 Lb-Ft using the same boxer four.

From the above:
That's no bad thing. The 2.0-liter boxer has an perfectly square 86 X 86 mm bore and stroke, meaning it should be capable of revving into absolute infinity. Expect peak power to be way up that rev range, but it'll be interesting to see how far the distance between that and peak torque will be, telling us how flexible this all-new, direct-injection motor is.

The BRZ weighs just 2,689 Lbs at the curb, making it one of the lightest-weight sports cars available. The convertible Miata weighs 2,410 Lbs and makes just 158 HP. The Subaru will be faster.
BRZ:
Power to weight: 200/2689 = .074
Weight distro: 53/47

Miata:
Power to weight: 158/2410 = .066
Weight distro: 50/50

Of course, the above means nothing if the suspension is setup wrong or you put two people in the car...

BTW, something interesting from the above: "perfectly square 86 X 86 mm bore and stroke, meaning it should be capable of revving into absolute infinity". Looking at the pictures, it looks like it has a ~7500RPM redline Image I would have thought that would have been higher, but then again, the boxer engines are not really designed to rev high (despite what is said above) and if they were making their power goals with that, why push it.

One other thing: Do anyone else think they might have hurt sales by showing the STI version already?

That's hot.

I don't think the BRZ needs a ton more power, "just" 50 to 75 would make this thing AMAZING. Kinda like the Miata...

Agreed. A 260 hp / 220 lb/ft BRZ would likely do a 5 second 0-60 and 13ish 1/4 @ 100 mph and be more than enough for the vast majority of drivers.

If there is one thing that bothers me about certain cars (like the Miata, MR2, RX8, boxter, cayman) is that there was power left on the table that would have made the car otherworldly. Mazda added a turbo to the miata for only two years (2004 & 2005) for a total of only 5,428 cars.

Miata is 2511/167 = 15.04 lb/hp

Also, I think you guys are nuts with your desire to add more power to my car. The wheelbase is too short for a ton of power. The BRZ might suffer from a similar problem in the eyes of Subaru/Toyota.

BTW, Phil's (from Element Tuning) power to weight ratio: 2800/620 = 4.52

boosted miatas routinely outrun almost everything shy of open-wheeled cars on any road course. it's a razor-sharp track instrument.
