Are sculpted fenders hard core? I'm not asking for Jack Daniels, I just don't want Miller Light. :(

The link was pulled but the meaning is still clear: Hyundai followed up, Toyota fell off.

Might be too expensive to manufacture? Toyota is not a company that wastes money. There's a reason they dropped the Supra and MR2. :(

Shave off all the edges and you get something that's cheap to manufacture and has no personality. So then you loose sales because people who are buying a car like this might actually LIKE their auto to have a little personality.

But what was the last Toyota with any personality? The bean counters have ruled that company for a while now, they're well on their way to being the new GM. I should have known...

I didn't say they were good reasons they stopped making interesting cars, just totally rational ones.

Bad news: Spy Shots: Subaru's Version of the FT-86 Caught on the 405
Last week we saw spy photos of Scion's version of the Toyota/ Subaru coupe, the Scion FR-S. Now here's your first look at the Subaru version driving down the 405 freeway in southern California. From the looks of this prototype, it looks like Subaru's coupe is going to be more conservative than what you will be able to get in Scion showrooms.

Both the Scion FR-S and Subaru coupe are expected to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year.
:(

Torque Report
Subaru is set to officially unveil its version of the rear-wheel-drive coupe that it has developed with Toyota at the Tokyo Motor Show this December. The Subaru version will go on sale early next year and according to Toshio Masuda, a Subaru senior general manager of product planning, an STI version will eventually be available. But unlike the STI variant of the Impreza, the STI version of the new coupe will not be getting a turbocharger.

Subaru's STI package usually includes turbocharging, a sport-tuned suspension, lower profile tires and bigger brakes. A turbo version of the coupe is probably not in the cards since the original concept of the car involved keeping the engine naturally aspirated.
:(

The coupe is expected to be powered by Subaru's new 2.0L four-cylinder boxer engine.
AutoNews
Power is expected to come from a new generation 2.0-liter, four-cylinder boxer engine that will be used in the redesigned Subaru Impreza arriving this fall. But the engine will be positioned nearly 5 inches lower than in the Impreza to bring down the car's center of gravity and improve handling.
:(
The car also will have Toyota's D-4S fuel injection system. And unlike the new Impreza, which gets an option for a continuously variable transmission, the sporty car will get a manual or automatic.
:nana:

I am VERY much looking forward to a DI solution with the Subaru F4.

The STi version might get the F6 out of the legacy. That would be a pretty cool car.

But the press release in that article says
Alliance with Toyota
Development

Joint development: A jointly developed rear-wheel drive sports car will be launched in spring 2012. FHI will study enhancement of product appeal of the model toward the future.
It didn't say what markets it would be available in, or who would sell under what brand, but I like 2012 better than 2016.

I see nothing coming from this thread that I would trade in an MX-5 for, even before you install the new struts and springs.
