But Sprint has the "Simply Everything (R)" plans, so I'm sure they wouldn't do....

Absolutely unheard of. In fact, they will probably take some money off of your bill each month for giving them the honor of providing you with this service.

For EVDO, Sprint has some absolutely *AMAZING* data roaming agreements.
G'head, axe me how I know.

so I'm a free man now, able to walk away at any time. I'm looking forward to the Pre launch and to Apple's WWDC in a few weeks.
I'm also going to keep an eye on the
HTC Lancaster but it won't be available until August.

Engadget's
Palm Pre review in
3 part harmony.
To put it simply, the Pre is a great phone, and we don't feel any hesitation saying that. Is it a perfect phone? Hell no. Does its OS need work? Definitely. But are any of the detracting factors here big enough to not recommend it? Absolutely not. There's no doubt that there's room for improvement in webOS and its devices, but there's also an astounding amount of things that Palm nails out of the gate.

Unless Apple REALLY wow's us with the next hardware refresh soon, my next phone will probably be Android. With the announcement that Android is moving to PC's too, it's just a matter of time before it gets a strangle hold. Oh, and I think it rocks

Palm Pre review by
PC Mag's Sascha Segan:
PCMag.com wrote:Bottom Line
The Palm Pre is the sexiest handset since the iPhone—and it also marks the dawn of a major new smartphone platform. Although it lacks third-party apps and has some battery life issues, it's much more fun than any other phone Sprint offers.
Pros
Excellent design. Very cool interface. Synergy feature consolidates e-mail, contacts, and calendars. Syncs with iTunes just like an iPod.
Cons
Very few third-party apps at launch. So-so reception. Short standby battery life. Limited IM apps.
Notable quote from the review: "The Palm Pre has the same exhilarating sense of possibility as the iPhone—and it's even worth switching to Sprint for."

I forget who's review I was reading (either BGR or Engadget or Gizmodo) and they had commented on the inability to do both data and voice at the same time on Sprint's EVDO network. Not that it's a deal-breaker by any means, but that is probably something that would bother the crap outta me.
There are definitely a few features that I am excited to see, as well as a few that I'm not so interested to see. Definitely a pretty good hail mary for Palm though. Time will tell.
(imho, of course)

Google planning Android 2.0 for 2009
Google is planning to release version 2.0 (code-named Donut) of its open source Android mobile operating system this year. While presenting the latest stage of development at the Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco, Google announced that Android 2.0 should be ready in approximately three to six months.
According to Andrew Rubin, Google's Director of Mobile Platforms, the time frame would allow, at least some of the 18 to 20 Android smartphones expected to be released in 2009 from eight or nine different manufacturers, to include Android 2.0. However, Rubin wouldn't say who those manufacturers are or where the phones would come on to the market.
The more obvious innovations in Android 2.0 include universal search, a text-to-speech API, handwriting input and the integration of Google Translate, which can translate text with a single click. It's not clear yet whether the handwriting input is gesture based or whether Android will be able to recognise natural handwriting.

the computer voice tells me that my order has been processed and will ship shortly; and if I would like to speak to a customer service representative the estimated wait time is 60 minutes.
hey AT&T, that's just a super way to begin a relationship with a customer.* I'm so pleased that I'll be paying AT&T extra money for two years to cover the cost of making the iPhone an exclusive to AT&T.**
I'm seriously contemplating canceling my order and getting some sort of Android phone or maybe a Pre...
* is not a super way.
** am not so pleased.

I've talked with two people who own the Pre. Cool phone for sure. Don't expect it to last more than 1/2 way through a single day if you use it
at all. Yes, I said 1/2 way through a single day.
Spend where your loins/heart/wallet tell you to... Every carrier/device have their drawbacks. I'm curious to see what the new Android TMo phone is going to be like in the realz.

Well, its basically the phone that Google handed out at the IO conference:
http://www.gearlog.com/2009/05/hands_on ... _and_t.php
A couple reviews are out. Most say its not as peppy as the iPhone, battery life is lower (but better than G1). Onscreen keyboard is fine. No multitouch. Background apps. Same camera as 3GS.

Up till this weekend, I had no problems getting to any site without issues. This weekend, I'd think my phone had a hangover with as much as it has gagged, not loaded or taken forever to get to sites that it has had no problems with before, and this was on 3G. Pissed me off to no end...

a friend from work walked in to an AT&T shop Friday evening and bought a 32GB (they were sold out of the 16GB) 3GS. he had his phone activated and his sprint number ported in 5 minutes.
I pre-ordered mine a week before they came out. I just picked up the phone today form the FedEx hub. I've now been waiting for activation since 7:15. plus I'm not able to join my home wi-fi network. I think I'm going to take a break, trouble shoot everything tomorrow.
I guess Steve Jobs heard about the things I said about the iPhone over the past two years.
