uninstall and reinstall tf2 from the steam menu. back up your maps/sprites folders first.

i have already uninstalled tf2 and reinstalled it and still same error. then i removed steam completed and reinstalled steam and tf2 and still same error. i will back up tf2 game files now and reinstall.

edit -- i am now reinstalling, but it still needs to re download everything? thats a bit retarded. 300kbps d/l speed ftl

well it has to get the files from somewhere! at least you don't have to futz with a multiple cd install anymore.

also back up your models folder if you use custom skins.

lol true. i am a pretty impatient person so yeh its at 15% now after 2 hours after this, and it doesnt work (which i dont think it will) i think im gonna try to contact steam some how. vista ftl.

i wouldn't be so quick to blame vista. steam is still a buggy pos. ask me how i know! :picard:

but you might want to make sure all your o.s. updates are installed and you have the latest drivers for your video/sound cards.

well i used to play on cs 1.4 - 1.5 and then when steam came out, if totally just effed everything up. but i dunno, ill check for updates for my video drivers now and my vista updates are up to date, but i will check again.

and the only reason why i blame vista is well, i play Dota also and i get the same msg with my wc3 banlist. well sorta. ill post if when and if it comes up again.

edit--according to vista all my video drivers are up to date. i checked the ATI site and my video card is not even on there yet ( iahve the radeon 4800 series)

edit again -- well i just finished reinstalling tf2 and its the same dumb error message. i think im gonna reformat, partion my drive, and dual boot. the thing is is that when i was at my friends house, i played tf2 with no reason, then when i came home to play, i got this message. after a little reasearch, there are a couple of things, it might be this "WMI", but i have no idea how to repair it.

aparently its the shaderapidx9.dll line. i googled it and after trying about 4 or so fixes and cmds, it finnaly works!
