Picked up my invidia catless for $225 shipped.

My recipe for a 300 whp STi uses the following ingredients:
1. down-pipe (shorty or cheap e-bay or used) $100-$200
2. cat-back (any you want, I always look for used) $150-$450
3. Headers (ebay 2 piece) $120
4. Intake (SPT, K&N, CAI if you want bigger gains but a bit of extra work optional) $120-$200
5. XPT stage 2 MAP $52-$99 (need a laptop ECUFlash and a tactrix cable)
6. Fuel pump (optional) $100

You can do it w/o the intake or headers, but headers are worth 12-14whp and 16-20 ftlbs. And the intake is worth 10-14whp.

If your a WRX add the following:
1. turbo (vf22, 30, 34, 39, 43, TD05-16G or 18G $350-$750)
2. injectors (for 02-05 WRX only)
3. Fuel pump (optional for 06+ WRX)

^^^^ so is that for the 2.5 wrx? or the 2.0 wrx?

and i thought the wrx comes with a turbo equivelant to the 18g?

The 02-05 WRXs have the 2.0 the 06+ WRXs have the 2.5. All come with with a TD04 turbo stock. The 06+ 2.5 liter WRXs use the same (essentially) injectors as the STi and therefore can take an STi turbo or one of similar size. The 02-05 WRXs require upgraded injectors and fuel pump.

Absolutely NOT! The STi turbo is of similar size and output to the smaller TD05-16G.

AHH! Interesting! Thats amazing it can push a good amount of power on the subies vs the Mitsu's that use 16g's!

Man.....i might have to start poking around for some WRX's and see if i can play with that!!!!!!! hahahaha..... BUT DANGIT I GOT A S2000!!!! wanna trade anyone?! hahahaha

You don't know the half of it. The EVOs have a very VERY large exhaust housing on their 16Gs. The EVO 8 has a 9.8cm2 hotside and the EVO 9 a 10.5cm2. Compare that to the tiny exhaust housings on subaru turbos and you would be shocked! To give you an idea, the standard size of the TD05-16/18Gs usually swapped into the WRX and STi are 7cm2. Some of us (meaning me) run a 8cm2 hotside, and that is considered "big".

You now start to understand how you can get stock turbo EVOs to near 350 whp w/o a turbo swap, but we in the Subaru community have to upgrade.

I knew the specs of the turbo's on the evo's and what not but your right! I AM shocked how small the turbo's are on the Subies??!! Why do they make it so small?! i can understand if they made it for the low grunt but sheesh!

after all of this. I STILL wish it wasnt so expensive or as difficult to mod compared to Mitsu. But just looking at some prices and such.. its not so bad anymore! I guess there is more demands for everything.

Even still if you think about it. The subies STILL produce a good number for what its using!

Honestly, The road to a 300whp STi and a 300whp EVO are basically the same and the cost is very similar.

The only big differences are that you can go further on the EVO's stock turbo than the STi's stock turbo. The best your ever likely to get out of a stock turbo STI is about 320 whp whereas you can get around 340-350 out of a stock turbo EVO. That, and cams for the EVO are cheap and easy and are fairly commonplace, where they are expensive and difficult on WRXs and STIs and are rarely done.

Ahh... man i'm kinda behind.. i remember it was more expensive on the Subies than on the mitsu's back a couple years.

Although i think its still more of a hassle to work on Subies than on the Evo's. Havent touched one for a min, but just the placement of things i remember werent in my favorite places hahaha
