Yeah usually I say nuts to the warranties too. But exactly like you said. I already have a friend who has had 2 broken 360s and it has broken 3 more times since. And I KNOW he doesn't abuse his system. These things have a terrible track record. And microshit is out for money so I figured there is a good chance they'd try to screw me over on the included warranty. which they did. the lady at tech support said that my warranty JUST expired and she'd have to charge me $130 and if I could give her a credit card number she'd go ahead and start the process and send an empty box to me. screw. that. I got a 2 year warranty at Best Buy. Lets hope these jerks come good with it. I think they will except I want to keep my hard-drive for obvious reasons. I'm hoping they'll let me just exchange my system sans-HDD for one of the basic ones without harddrive. I figure if they put up a fuss I'll remind them that now is their chance to get one off their shelves so they can write one off. I have to imagine their sales have dropped now that the elite is out.

Well, whichever route you wind up going, good luck with it. And I can't believe that the MS lady gave you crap. The fact that they are having these kinds of problems with the systems should clue them in to the fact that they may have done something wrong and, in the interest of PR, I don't know....go the extra mile to fix them for people who dumped their hard earned money into them. That truly sucks.
I'm to the point now, after reading all of this, where I'm holding my breath every time I turn the damn thing on.

I just got the dreaded red led's and I also purchased the warranty through the store I bought it from. They told me that microsoft had extended the warranty on the 360 to 3 years. But I just walked in replaced it and bought the store warranty again. I say 40 bucks is a great deal to just walk in and get a new 360 versus trying to go through microsoft.

I love the pic

Gotta love the HDMI output, though. Does anyone know if it will be the updated v1.3?

had a really strange 360 experience last night: started up Bioshock but the game paused for a second every 4 or 5 minutes. I shut down the 360, but the center power light kept flashing after shutdown??? I unplugged the 360, plugged it back in, but got the same pause effect in Bioshock. I played a demo with no pause issues. I didn't have time to try a different game or do any real research on the issue, but I will tonight. anybody else seen/heard of this behavior in a 360?

Were you downloading a demo while playing the demo off your hard disk? That could cause it. The other telltale sign was the blinking power light while it was off. That's background downloading. It will continue to download your active dl's after you turn it off and then shut itself completely down when it's finished.

the stuttering issue was the Bioshock patch: you may need to clear the cache by holding the R and L shoulder buttons while the game loads. this cleared up the stutter for me.
no downloading was going on when i got the blinking green light, and I've never seen it before even when i was downloading??? either way it isn't doing it now. /shrug
finished Bioshock over the weekend with the "good" ending, now playing through a second time for the "evil" ending

how's the game-play length on bioshock? I'm sick of buying games and then burning through them in an evening. I almost bought the darkness but decided to just rent it. Thank god I did. It was a blast to play and took me the better part of 2 evenings, but I picked it up, I beat it, and I put it down, and I'd be kicking myself had I bought it. Games just don't seem to have nearly the same amount of replay value anymore.

I liked Bioshock but with a full time job and life I don't really burn through games anymore. that said I did have a marathon session Saturday, my first in a long time. I really liked exploring the world and trying to find all the audio diary entries. they really helped flesh out the story. I started playing a second time to get the "evil" ending. every level looked fresh but still in context and it was nice to have a FPS that wasn't WWII or Sci-Fi based. the enemy's dialog did start to get repetitive and the final battle was pretty easy, but that's only 2 nits in an otherwise great package.
CN: I really liked it, your mileage may vary...
