Hey there is nothing wrong w/ a forester :evil:

I can try to find you a forester XT for sale in the area but usually that will still run you around 18-2K depending on mileage and what parts/mods they come w/. You need to register w/ www.subaruforester.org but here are some links:

Damn, you could buy that and make a shit ton off the parts alone! Then again, you'd have to front 28k :(

yeah unfortunately i only have like 14000 to spend plus like 1000 for the tags and title and warranty and shit, so a forester XT is out of my range

I thought some of the newer models were "full time 4 wheel drive" which is AWD.

<Buzzer sounds>
I'm sorry, you have that wrong...
</Buzzer sounds>

Wikipedia to the rescue!
Four-wheel drive (4WD or 4x4 for short) was the original term, often used to describe truck-like vehicles that required the driver to manually switch between a two wheel drive mode for streets and a four-wheel drive mode for low traction conditions such as ice, mud, or loose gravel. The "all wheel drive" term (AWD for short) was invented to distinguish vehicles that are capable of driving all four wheels on normal roads without causing poor control and excessive tire and drivetrain wear.

CN's: AWD=full time drive of all of the wheels with no wear on the tranny. 4WD, if engaged all the time, will typicall wear the components because it does not allow the slippage that AWD does.

If you ever took a Jeep from off-road to dry road while keeping the 4WD engaged, you would become VERY familiar with the wheel hop that distinguishes the two :)

what I was saying is: don't some of the newer Jeeps have all 4 wheels being driven all the time (full-time 4 wheel drive), even on pavement, never switching it off? if so, then that would be AWD. not sure that the Jeep HE got has this feature though, just talking Jeep in general.

I know why you don't leave a 4WD vehicle in 4WD on the road, I was raised in Kentucky and spent quite a bit of time in my dad's 1968 Bronco out at the strip mines. oh how I [don't] miss climbing out in the middle of a mud-hole to lock the front hubs...
