I have people in town this weekend :( I'll see if there is a chance I could help with the injectors though. Just let me know the time you all want to do it and I'll try my best.

Doesn't matter where to me, your place might be better w/ the carport for shelter? When, early Saturday is probably best as you said, since the wrench time is unknown. Maybe Zak is available?

Does anyone have an EGT probe for tuning purposes? I remember
Darrin mentioning he had a Wideband O2 which would be useful as well. I found someone on NASIOC that NHat from the MAIC lunch recommended who is willing to help out and tune the car since he will be doing the same mods to his vehicle soon. He has tuned plenty of stage 2 STIs and WRXs in the past so seems like a good deal.

For anyone wanting to watch/help we should be starting around 9am at Darrin's house this Saturday.

The mod list:

SSA TMIC
Walbro fuel pump
850cc PE Injectors
FP TD06-20G Turbo
+ 1 Nice tuner guy

I'd ask Darrin first but I assume all are welcome :)

Indeed, anyone who wants to lend a hand please do.
We're going to need all the help we can get.
The injectors and Fuel-pump worry me the most as I've never done STi injectors before and it's been years since I did a fuel pump.

Install went relatively well. Need a T adapter for the vacuum lines and a boost controller. Oh yeah, and a tune. Other than that, she runs.

Darrin, what boost controller did you say to go with?

http://fastwrx.com/prbocoso.html ?

Also what BOV would be ideal for my setup? Stock?

^^ Not until it's tuned and going vroom vroom ;) With the map I have on it now it feels like a Civic EX.

Also one more thing to note, I smell exhaust gas IN the engine bay and hear sput sput sput sput sput... I wonder if we did not tighten enough on the DP or another area, thoughts Dr?

That's not "really" a boost controller it is just a better boost control solenoid than the stock. And yes, that's the one to get, becuase it is plug and play, no need to rewire! The GM is cheaper, but you have to do some modifications for it to work.

Stick with the Stock BOV unless it won't hold your target boost. Most will hold to 23psi or so. That is more than enough for a 20G on pump gas. You would not likely run more than that, even on race gas.

Tightened up everything, removed kink from turbo <-> IC hose and still smell exhaust gas in the engine bay, particularly on the turbo side. What the heck could it be? I'm hoping ptuning can take me tomorrow and tune it up as well :(

Did a few logs too:

There is an easy way to check for exhaust leaks.

Take a rag and cover over your exhaust tip, trying to stop all exiting exhaust. Have a bunch of people stand around the car, (one up front at the turbo, one close to the mid-pipe) and listen for pff pff pff. Also if when you cover over the tail pipe the car's idle drops significantly (like it is almost going to stall) you deffinately don't have an exhaust leak.

Also, you just put on a new turbo, TMIC and injectors (with some coolant and oil in your engine bay ta boot) so there will be some curing time, during which you will get some "burning off" smell. Your car is also running "very rich" which may also account for some, if not all of the smell. I didn't notice anything more that what I consider normal for this kind of swap. Actually it was less than what I expected. It took about a week and a half before the FXT was burn-off odor free.

My WRX, which had the turbo swapped out over a year ago, still smells like gas when I run the fans on fresh at a stop. I have never found a leak or any other explanation for it.

So if PTuning can't do it, and mach5 can tune with the AccessPort, should I just go with that? Can I take an AP map and convert it to Enginuity? I'd rather ditch the AP so keeping it installed is not desired.

Congrats on the install! Sorry I missed your calls, I was busy all weekend playing tour guide for family :(

Smell: As Darrin pointed out, you'll have the smell till everything burns off. Shouldn't be more than a week. With running as rich as you probably are, I'm not surprised. What kind of flange do you have from DP -> midpipe? Is it the donut one? If so, sometimes you might have to tighten that up a little more.

What happened to Jeff tuning it for you? If he couldn't tune it for you, I would have held off on the install.... just my $.02. If you don't want the AP, wait till you can find someone who can give you an Enginuity tune. You can't convert a AP map to an Enginuity map.

Turns out we missed a nut and a bolt on the UP/Turbo connection during the install. PTuning fixed it up nice for me, for a fee of course ;) But honestly thanks PTuning, you guys came through for me and I appreciate it.

As for the tune, Jeff is not available and unfortunately coordinating people that can help do the mods was more important. I will be going to AMS tomorrow for a tune.

Well, got it tuned up at AMS which took ALL DAY due to various issues however it is running solid right now w/ a slight exhaust leak. Hopefully PTuning can rectify that tomorrow. I definitely recommend AMS to anyone looking to get a tune, the price is right and the service is excellent.
