Truth About Cars: Subaru History Illustrated

That Subaru is still thriving is in itself a minor miracle. The small Japanese car makers have either imploded (Isuzu), are threatening to (Mitsubishi), or have sought shelter (even Subaru is now 20% owned by Toyota). Subaru did have its own near-death experience in the early nineties. But in a long string of wild bets, Subaru’s final card in the US was a big gamble on AWD, and the timing couldn’t have been better. And like most successful gamblers, there have been losses along the way (see above). But perhaps because of the bumpy ride, Subaru is still alive and kicking.

Remember the good old days where people didn't wear seat belts and you could legally ride around in the bed/back of a pickup truck?

I also miss my free Duron paint cap and checkered vans slip-on shoes, too...hahaha.

According to this website, most places you still can ride in the back:

http://www.iihs.org/laws/cargoAreas.aspx

Virginia - people 16 and older; farmers when crossing a highway to go from field to field

Maryland - people 16 and older; people 15 and younger if the vehicle is traveling 25 mph or less; employees being transported to work sites or people engaged in farming operations; exceptions do not eliminate requirement to use child restraint or belts; inapplicable to pickup trucks with covered cargo areas

District of Columbia - employees on duty; people riding within truck bodies in a space intended for materials
