:plusone: I really hope they do a good job with this. I remember writing down the insults to get through the sword fighting scene in the woods... damn, that's the second time on the boards tonight I have shot myself in the foot!

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.

Don't worry. You aren't alone.

Might want to take a second look.

I had a choice between Loom and Monkey island as one of my first games.... I never ended up getting Loom. Was it good? I should just grab the SCUMVM and try it out....

My all-time favorite Lucas Arts game is Grim Fandango.
I don't know that many folks who ever had it, but I thought it was brilliant.

I really enjoyed it. I think I actually played that before Monkey Island. It played just like any of the other LucasArts point and click adventure games of the time but it was a little more mature. Puzzles weren't quite so "exchange the breath mints and gopher repellent with otis for the carrot cake to get the file" zany and it didn't have as much goofy humor but it had a certain charm to it (much like all the LucasArts titles..) It made you remember musical note sequences to accomplish tasks and "cast spells". I'd highly recommend grabbing it for ScummVM if you can find it. Also I highly recommend Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade if you haven't played that. I actually have the old 5.25" floppy disk sitting in the next room. :ugh:

HMM! I didn't think anyone else here actually played that game!

A new Monkey Island would be cool. once I get set up again I'll have to try these out. I've played and beaten all but the second one.

ScummVM FTW!

I got the impression that they licensed the IP, and are the sole developer.
I read some interviews and it sounded like the guys knew or used to work at LucasArts, and the involvement of LucasArts only goes as far as monitoring and critique.

From their FAQ : http://www.telltalegames.com/monkeyisland/faq

Um… does LucasArts know what you're doing?

Of course they do! (Monkey Island is a LucasArts property, after all.) We licensed the Monkey Island rights from LucasArts, the same way we've licensed other franchises from their owners—like Sam & Max from Steve Purcell, Strong Bad from the Brothers Chaps, and Wallace & Gromit from Aardman—and now we're working closely with them to bring you this new chapter in Guybrush's adventures.

I heard something about a remake of The Secret of Monkey Island®. Is that the same as your game?

You're thinking of The Secret of Monkey Island®: Special Edition, which is the game our friends at LucasArts will be releasing this Summer. This is the faithfully re-imagined version of the original The Secret of Monkey Island, presented in all new HD detail. You can find more details about The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition here.

I wonder if the manual will have the walk through printed in back like the original :D.

I always got stuck, and RPGs back then were much less forgiving... like you could actually make the game not-winnable by destroying some item that you needed, and there were no quest logs to tell you what you need to do.
