JDM parts supplier preferences?
There are lots of companies supplying JDM engines, clips, etc. I'm trying to source an R33 or R34 Skyline engine with an R33 GTS-T transmission. I need the harness and ECU. The prices seem to fluctuate about $1,500 from week to week (anywhere from $1,500 to $4,500 for the set). I'd ideally like to go with one vendor, but I don't mind using two if it makes it easier or cheaper.
Anyone have preferences for this sort of vendor? Past experience? Know anyone who has gotten e.g., an SR20DET from overseas?

www.japanparts.com
I know many people that have used them and had good transactions. If I were to use a company, it would be them.

They don't seem to be selling actual motors, and they want $44 for (each) NGK spark plugs. And I dunno if you looked at their terms at all...sirwilliam wrote:http://www.japanparts.com

Not sure if www.jdmpartstx.com is still around. Those are the only two I know of. Good luck in your search.

Realized after re-reading my post, it sounded pretty snotty. Sorry. Thanks for the suggestion.sirwilliam wrote: Yeah, I don't know of everything they sell. Just offering one I know of.

Japanparts.com isn't necessarily the place where you can get your engine but I have had ties with Graham. When I was working out in Las Vegas for SEMA he funded part of the project. He is incredibly helpful. You might pay a little more money for the parts but I never hear of dissatisfied customers. Ever. Just something to keep in mind if you need other things down the road.
As far as motors go. I'm trying to remember some of the names I've heard. The one that is stuck in my head is I've heard bad bad things about http://www.jdmenginescorp.com. Doesn't help much, true, but at least it gives you somewhere to avoid! I'll ask my swap-guru buddy about where he sources engines from.

For what it's worth, http://www.111vintagecar.com in Palm Springs, CA has had two R33's for sale for some time now: a silver GT-R and a maroon V-Spec. I know you just want the engine, but this is an option. There are no prices listed for them, but I wonder how much they'd ask since they are being sold as "49-state cars" (not legal in California). They might let them go fairly cheap. Like I said, they've had them for a while (at least ever since I've lived here in November '07).
Plus, if you get really serious about it, I have no problem going out to look over the cars for you
edited for bad domain

And just think of how much money it saved you!

I'm a buffoon. I got the address completely wrong.
http://www.111vintagecar.com
because it's on Route 111. D'OH.
I fixed my original post as well.
