Smithton Hole Rallycross
One of the guys I know helps host a rallycross every month at Smithton Hole out here in PA. If any of you are interested I'll post up info on when these meets take place. They start at 8pm (usually on a weekend) and go until whenever.
$20 to enter your own car or $35 to drive a communal rental car... It WAS a plymouth laser but someone blew out the brakes and messed up the engine this time out so they are currently looking for a new one. (anyone has any offers for a beater rallycross rental for cheap let me know!)
Anyways it's a blast and very informal. This is not a SCCA event so as long as you show up with something drivable, wear your helmet and a seatbelt, you can race.
DO EET NOUGHHHHH!!!

Looks like fun! And with no stodgy SCCA rules, it should be even more fun.

Re: Smithton Hole Rallycross
Big picsss
I didn't take my car down since I was having some hesitation issues and a Pirelli that keeps wanting to go flat.... hrm... but I went with Shek in his sweet-ass car. It looks rough but it's mechanically beautiful.
yes that's rhino liner...
The night kicked off around 8pm.
Everyone got a chance to walk the course.
Check out the wicked wide open right-hander
We were introduced to the rental-rally-car.... the Plymouth Laser....
....which we killed before the night was even half through....R.I.P.
little buddy haha
So as night fell...over the.... majestic .... hole....
The event kicked off!
As the night wore on things started to get more daring. DCCD's were set to rear bias....
some had more sideways action than others...
Shek was tearing it up on bald tires.
All in all it was a wicked night. We have a TON more pics from the event that can be found on a site. The course was rather short this time although we are trying to acquire more access to some of the uphill areas. I'm working with Jon from DC shoes to see if we can work something out so the site is more open for practices. The owner is a cool guy apparently, it's just a matter of coordinating things around other events going on and such since everything from mud-bogs to demolition derbies are held in the area.
All the pics can be found here courtesy of Jimmy:

If any of you ever want to come out let me know! I'll be driving my own car at the next race so let's just see if I can't put my new rally tires to the test!

Re: Smithton Hole Rallycross
Last weekends race was a blast!
My car behaved amazingly. A few of the other drivers wanted to take rides and were all impressed how the little automatic GD RS handled. Looks like the rear power bias and stiffer chassis pays off. I was running right in the middle of the pack as far as times go only slightly behind some of the purpose-built rally cars and well ahead of most of the rental runs. By the end of the night I had dropped 16 seconds off my lap times.
The photographer wasn't there this time so I had to get some pics on my own... something that wasn't very easy since when I wasn't out running I was either checking over the car, talking with other drivers, comparing notes and just watching the other runs.
They got me to pose for a picture...
The Organic Root Stimulator RallyAmerica car was there. Get this... AWD Hyundai Elanta with TD05 turbocharger and DOG ENGAGEMENT TRANSMISISON. Fully gutted with roll cage, sparco seats, rally computer, in-car communication system, lexan windows, 5-point harness system... etc. etc. Easily one of the most amazing Hyundais I have ever seen. In fact he had just about everything.... almost In between runs the owner would use my car as a mobile power supply for the air compressor. He spent most of his time parked very close to me
Surprisingly there was a Toyota MR2 racing there. It didn't do amazingly well.... but it was racing there nontheless!
The car survived! It was dirty and a bit scraped up from when i DEMOLISHED a cone on one of the runs.... but it drove home happy!
You guys need to come out!
EDIT:
Here's that wicked hyundai
