Data Recovery?

Post by complacent »

Has anyone used someone local for platter based HDD recovery? My boss dropped the external drive that I had used to make an image of his system and now it shows up in bios as a 0MB drive (incorrect geometry.) Can't even dd the sucker, doesn't show up in a dmesg either. :(

Any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I know Geek Squad can do data recovery, but its super expensive. All they do is ship it out to a third party though.

we've sent out platters to a vendor, but I don't have the info at hand. I can do some digging if you like but the place isn't local and IS expensive.

I found someone local: Disk Doctors.

They have their own clean room and will evaluate the drive for free before making a quote. Sounds pretty legit for future work.

Just saw this thread :(

I've known Tim Lider for years and he's always done excellent work:

Tell him Julian (Sabre) from the Hardware Group sent you and he'll give ya a discount.

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.
