Getting a B-day present for by GF and wanted to get her a new head unit with iPod interface that she can connect to her iPod and stuff out of the way.
She ain't got upgraded speakers, sho don't need integrated Sat Radio or DVD/navigation.
Just something nice and simple with good sound, $oh, and around $175 or so, and including the wiring harness for a '01 Legacy GT would be nice too.
Need help picking a new head unit w/ iPod control

most any new name-brand car stereo will have the option for iPod controls. my Alpine is fast but navigating isn't as easy as it is on the iPod itself. some 2xDIN units have touch screen controls that emulate the iPod controls but they aren't cheap. for researching car stereos, Crutchfield is your friend.

Yeah, I've been on there and found that 2DIN units will fit. I thought for some reason that the integrated iPod connection ment that it was easier to intrafce with, but from what I have read on the site for the reviews, not so much.
One thing for sure, ain't gonna be buying any Sony units. The security binging drives me nuts.

What car does your GF have?
Have you looked into the Harmon Kardon iPod interface? LINKY
That would work well w/ any factory/aftermarket HU that has an aux input. Big bright display that is easy to navigate.
Subaru makes a nice single din filler pocket that has a door/cover.
I still really think this one is a good deal for the money but might not be the color that matches many cars: Clarion LINKY

'01 GT (of the Subaru type) with stock HU, so no aux input. No FM (nix HK) transmitter. Must have CD (nix Clarion).
So, looks like I will be looking for the DIN cover.
Unless something fantabulous comes along, I think I will go with this deal.
fixed, what a pain!

I know there was a deal for an Alpine CDA-9883 w/ a free iPod adapter for $199 which is a good deal.
