Motor Oils

Post by sirwilliam »

Been thinking of trying Motul 8100 or Redline synthetic motor oil instead of my Mobil 1.

Motul fluid I can get from MachV down the road from work
Redline fluid I can get from OGRacing down the road from work

Anyone?

Meh, I'm not sold on any one particular synth or the idea that an oil four times the price is worth it.

That being said, stick to mobil1 or whatever... (IMHO)

Most all of the articles I have ever read on synthetics say that they basically all perform about the same. Many even claim that the synthetic blends are just as good.

That said, I've always thrown mobil 1 in mine, but I doubt I would ever notice the difference if I went to another synthetic or even a conventional for a change or two.

I sell Motul and Redline.

And I still go to Walmart for my Mobil 1.

(It's the only thing I go to Walmart for. I figure Walmart and Exxon-Mobil are both evil, so it cancels out).

Excellent!

But wait, Walmart and Exxon-Mobil are still getting your money.
Shouldn't we figure out a way to steal Mobil 1 from Walmart?
That way everybody wins!

My mom just retired from Exxon-Mobil corporation. She worked at the HQ off gallows and 50. She used to get the cases of Mobil 1 for 25 and the filters for $6. No more... :( I am just about out of my stash. But I have been using Mobil 1 since my first oil change and believe me I have changed my oil many times...sometimes WAY too soon b/c of the !@#$@#$ faulty OEM oil filters.

So Sam, you prefer Mobil 1 to the Motul and Redline oils?

For my daily driver that doesn't see any track time, Mobil 1 is enough.

If I had a track car, I would use Motul or Redline, but for my situation, Mobile 1 is just fine.

For Motul and Redline are you talking the standard synthetic or the race synthetic or both?

When I couldn't find Mobil 1 (sold out everywhere I looked) I tried Royal Purple. Works just fine. Otherwise I would go with the old stand-by - Mobil1.

Both. I just can't justify spending the money on a daily driver.

I've always used Quaker State Advanced in my car. It works for me. Right now, after the Exxon Valdez incident during my last oil change, I'm experimenting with Castrol Syntec. It's probably still too soon to tell but thus far the only discernible difference seems to be that I had more torque with the Quaker State.

Royal Purple Synthetic and a K&N Oil Filter FTW

Do it yourself and save money.
