Belt didn't jump but it was on it's way out. I noticed some fraying before I took her in and the shop confirmed it. Thankfully, things seem to be resolved before it turned into the belt jumping and causing any damage.

As for where the work is being done - for the routine stuff I take her to Dulles MotorCars in Leesburg. I like the people out there and they've done quality work since I've had the car. I've got a great relationship with my service manager as well.

Anyway - thanks for the thoughts. :) I got a phone call a few minutes ago saying that she was ready and good to be picked up whenever I'm ready. So, I'll have her back either tonight or tomorrow. Depends on motivational levels to drive to Leesburg tonight. :)

The intense smell of gas could be due to this:
NHTSA web site wrote: Make: SUBARU Model : WRX Year : 2002
Manufacturer : SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC.
Service Bulletin Num : 11012004 Date of Bulletin: NOV 01, 2004
NHTSA Item Number: 10014461
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER
Summary:
FUEL ODOR IN COLD WEATHER. *EH
I had this done last month and, since I'm out of warranty, it cost a bundle. But there's no more fuel smell.
