COBB tuning makes STrIbeca

Post by zaxrex »

Motor Trend that I picked up in th airport had a 1/4 page article of the **black** [flame-suit on] Tribeca that COBB did EM tuning/supercharging, exhaust, syspension, brakes, and wheel/tire upgrades to the beast.

I wonder if they messed up the legend on that graph? Because it currently reads that the torque dropped considerably at low revs. :?:

I would immagine that is where the supercharger kicks in, if that 15 ft/lbs drop before 2500 RPM is what you are looking at.

I just think it is neat to have such a flat torque curve all the way to red-line.

I'm actually suprised that the numbers are not a lot higher :( Hopefully someone will try to make a Cayanne killer... but I'm guessing they would need to do some internals for that to happen reliably.

There already is a Cayenne Killer.
It's called the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8:
$40k
0-60: 4.5
1/4 mile: 13.2 @ 104.5mph
lateral accel: 0.85g
700ft. slalom: 63.5mph

Cayenne Turbo:
$90k
0-60: 5.3
1/4 mile: 13.9 @ 101.2mph
lateral accel: 0.83g
700ft. slalom: 62.5mph

Will also has it right, a modified FXT will eat a Cayenne Turbo for lunch any day of the week. It just dosen't have the 7715lb. towing capacity of the Cayenne.

I think Zak means Mercedes Benz ML63.
And yes that should be a screamer. I just haven't seen any data on it yet.
My guess is that it's skidpad and slalom performance will not top the Porsche and certainly not the Jeep.

Oops, thanks D!

BMW, Mercedes, Porche -- all the same thing. Iwill not be owning one.

Though this does have AWD, and I would think the Jeep would be RWD. I think the MERCEDES AMG will do a lot better than the Jeep on a road track like the Nordschlief.

The more research I do into it, the more the number change.

I modified the price and engine designation. The MB USA site has the torque dropped down to 465, but that is probably b/c of our gas, and not the engine itself.

Talk to anyone at AMG, and he will tell you the target vehicle for the ML63 AMG is the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Forget other sporty utes such as the Range Rover Sport, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, or the BMW X5 4.8is: AMG focused on one truck, and one truck alone. The ML63 was even developed on the fearsome Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, where it laps the 12.9-mile circuit in “about 8 minutes, 40 seconds.” Not so long ago, that was a good Porsche 911 time.
