BMW is celebrating its successful return to the DTM in 2012 after almost 20 years away with the release of the BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition model. The results in BMW's comeback year exceeded all expectations with Canadian driver Bruno Spengler winning the drivers' title, BMW Team Schnitzer finished in top spot in the team standings and BMW claimed the manufacturers' honors.
The BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition model borrows its looks from Spengler's racing car and is available exclusively in Frozen Black metallic, while the carbon flaps and gurney, various dark chrome elements, matte black wheels and sections of the race car's livery also betray its close links with the BMW M3 DTM. The theme is continued by the BMW M stripe design over the CFRP roof and boot lid, BMW M logo to the rear of the front wheel arches and decals in the rear side windows. Inside the car, the door sill strips replicate Spengler's helmet design and the carbon fiber interior trim strip bears the champion's signature and the car's serial number. The special-edition model also contains various exclusive interior additions, such as the Alcantara steering wheel, handbrake lever embroidered with "M Power" lettering, and extended black Novillo leather trim with features in contrasting Palladium Silver.
Production of the BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition kicks off in February 2013 with prices in Germany starting at €99,000.
So no performance increases, just cosmetic... and more expensive...

Why does that surprise you? The M3 is difficult to mod for more power without resorting to supercharging and there's no way BMW will spend the money to get something like that federalized. These special editions are to keep people interested when the rest of us know that the new M3 will debut next spring (on sale next fall) and the M4 will be on the show circuit by the end of the year (going on sale in early 2014).
