2011 DTM at Nürburgring
Myself and two friends I met through a FB group are heading to the DTM race at Nürburgring tomorrow morning! We have gold tickets (covered seating is a must with the "summer" weather we've been having) and paddock passes. We're leaving at 07:30 in an attempt to make the Porsche Cup race at 10:30.
I'd love to go the the Baltimore GP with the DCAWD crew but absent that I'll make do with my first visit to The 'Ring. I applied Rain-X to the windshield. I emptied both camera's memory cards. I packed an extra pair of socks. I think I'm ready...
I probably won't be able to offer a report till Monday after work.

Re: 2011 DTM at Nürburgring
Had a wonderful time today. The 2 friends who went along were great fun (but no replacement for y'all ) and the weather was cold but the rain held off. What a fantastic venue! Really top shelf and a great family atmosphere. My only complaint was the roller coaster wasn't open. I wouldn't mind camping out and making a weekend of it next time.
Most of my pix are up on FB. More photos and (if it turns out) some video soon. I'll cross-post tomorrow as I'm very tired and 05:30 comes early on Mondays...
Cheers.

I really need to get busy cross-posting, trouble is the images are pretty large so it's gonna take a while to upload or to resize.
But I will post them soon. Promise.

But it still takes time to upload large files. I'm on DSL here, remember?

This guy was in second place the entire race. On turn 1 of the final lap he blew a tire and finished last. After the race he got out and kicked the car! In the end he waved to the cheering crowd and seemed to accept the fate the racegods had meted out.

Re: 2011 DTM at Nürburgring
The atmosphere was more like a baseball game than a car race; lots of families and ladies of all ages, not just guys and sons. These two were super excited to see the Audi drivers on the parade lap. At the end of the race they came back and cheered again.
What looked to be local HS cheerleaders with banners and a very good marching band.
Then the skydiver showed up!
He didn't land in one of the convertibles to drive a lap though.

Re: 2011 DTM at Nürburgring
pic 386 got me laughing. From the looks of it, the car door on the driver's side just opened and a big billowing pot cloud came out of the cab. It is from the Netherlands, ya' know...
Is he doing a burnout right there with people standing and watching (and an open rear diff?), or is he stopped and the tires are still smoking from his 'DriftKing' adventures?

It's a great looking car in person as well. I'm hoping to get a chance to drive one at the IAA.complacent wrote:i am steadfast in my opinion that the a1 can be hot. that pic only affirms my opinion.
There was a drift expo, 4 cars hooned it up for a lap and this was the result. If you check my FB my friend Michael has a video posted and I'm tagged so it should be visible to my friends as well.zaxrex wrote:pic 386 got me laughing.
