Dover Inter Raceway, DE - RallyX - 7/24

Post by supasixfo »

I've never been to any of the phili region events, but met a bunch of people at the last rallyX that apparently are involved/regularly attend.

Since i've been making it a point to attend more of these, i'm planning on being there, evo in tow.

http://www.phillyscca.com/courserally/index.html

oh also, i hear these are going to be on a grass field, so they should be "friendlier" on the car...probably good if ur considering rally and don't have a prepared car. on the down side, it's on grass so i forsee lots of sliding all over the place going on :)

We are thinking about bringing the RallyX-7 out to this one also.

moxnix - Needs to buy a real tow vehicle.

w00t - finally got the evo down here. all it took was rebuilding the suspension, brakes, and 2 weekends of driving back and forth between CT. ams/wilwood kept messing up our brake order (wrong orings, wrong part numbers, only sending us one set of the correct part number for a front caliper PAIR rebuild), so only technically the front left brakes were fully rebuilt :D. also didn't realize dover was pretty darn close (hour half-ish from tysons).

Looks like I'm out. The side job that I have been doing didn't get finished up this week (no other day to go over), so I'll be doing that Sunday morning :(

Oooh I gotta sign up for this!
Looks like having a short throw shifter is enough to knock me into the rally prepared class. I guess it's me vs Alvin then. I might as well stay home :P

sorry to hear you won't be able to make it sabre - gonna miss the "L"!

lol Leigh - just remember when you're out there, you're really racing yourself. though i'd keep an eye out for the 2.5rs's. IIRC at the last rallyX, those are the guys to watch and i would argue have advantage over our turbo cars in the low speed corners.

moxnix - can't wait to see the rx7 out there again - i'm envious of the rear drive - you guys must have an ear-to-ear grin permanently plastered on your faces!

i'm pretty stoked, see you all out there! :D

Ugh sorry for bailing. Last night was unexpectedly nuts and I overslept this morning

One day I WILL make it out to one of these.

Trust me, the L will miss it too :( I just got home from my clients place after I got there at 9AM... definitely would not have made it up there even if I had tried!

Hope you all did well!

Definitely worth going back, as it was a lot of fun. I only killed 6 cones on this run. :)

i think i tied you for cones pwn3d. i immediately take back anything i mistakenly said about the field being "friendlier" for newbies though. the ruts at the rallycross were pretty devastating - and that ditch - oh man! - that only got worse as the day wore on.

Also - i've been wondering, that GPS overlay/logger, how does that work? where would i pick up one of those - that looks bad ass!

I am using the maxqdata software on an old dell windows mobile PDA connecting to a bluetooth GPS receiver. Maxqdata is pretty much out of business now it seems like.

The actual receiver I use is a Qstarz BT-Q818XT 10Hz Bluetooth GPS Receiver.

If you have an old windows mobile phone/pda laying around try the racechrono software.

If you have an iDevice laying around try harry's lap timer.

For video I am using the gopro HD and the free version of racerender to combine the datalogger and the video.

Email with results.
Results are ready and can be found at:

http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/ ... D87B291957

We had some close battles:

In PA the Adams (Kimmett and Moore) dueled back and forth for top honors until Kimmett got it in the end. Could Moore have taken if lightning didn’t strike? We’ll never know, but maybe they will rematch next month! Mike Golden took a resounding first in SA while Daniel Lampie narrowly missed second place by one cone, leaving Michael Stanbro to take second by running clean all day. In SR Chris Nonack’s MR2 triumphed over the big Detroit power of Matt DeLacy’s Camaro. Mike Yoder and Phil Gasparovic each ran unchallenged in their classes, SF and PR. John Roscinski ran clean all day to take first place in M4, and lastly, in M2 we had our only upset due to double-penalties when Shawn Roberts took first over Lee Wildman. Other notables: Alvin Fong had the only sub-90 second run of the day, but it was a dubious honor with 6 cone penalties on that run alone! Alvin is crowned "cone king" of the day, I title I'm happy to pass on! John Roscinski had the fast clean time of the day with 90.75s.

Some pictures can be found at: http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e282/kevn_17/ compliments of Kevin "no bumper" Rickert
If anyone else has pictures they want to share, send me the link and I’ll distribute it to everyone.

Thanks to everyone for coming out, I hope you had a good time. We’ll be back at Dover on August 21. We’ll have a new course layout and now that I know where the ditches are, I can avoid them entirely. I hope to see you all there!
