Gahh, I hate doing this but I won't be able to make it. :( My car is deciding on wanting a new engine by destroying its own head gaskets. So I am in the process of gathering parts, and working on a 2.5 wrx swap for over the winter / next spring.

I bet there would be people who would give you a ride there and back if you wanted to do the karting thing.
I would be there except for the fact that it is the 25 year anniversary for the temple back home that I helped build.

That really blows about your gasket, man. Was it a catastrophic boom with white smoke, or a general leak that has progressed to far? What was the setup that you were running?

If you are serious about doing a 2.5 swap, I have some pieces and parts (block, crank, heads...) that may interest you.

Well I don't think anyone would drive up to Ny to pick me up and drive all the way there and back again. The car still runs, and pretty strong as well. I just don't want to take that chance of anything going when I am far from home. Already picked up the block, crank, pistons. Will be needing heads.

That sucks Brent! I hope the surgery goes well whenever you do it!

Leigh: I'll be talking with the karting folk today and will get a definitive answer for you.

Looking forward to this weekend!!!!!!

P.S. Zak: I'm not seeing a problem here.... haha... That's pretty awesome BTW.

I'm meeting up with some peeps at Cars and Coffee around 8 on Saturday, getting breakfast, and then going to Summit. You're welcome to join us. C'nC is full of awesome photo ops. It's at Katie's Coffee House in Great Falls, VA.

Sounds like Leigh has you covered, but you're more than welcome to caravan up with Jason and I. I think that we are leaving around 8 to get up there in time to setup camp and chill a little. It will also get you up there before the crowd so you can get registered quicker :)

Ok all, some updates!

They have reduced the membership fee for us if we show up with at least 15 people.
SPK Membership: $15
Kart Till you Puke: $120
Total: $135 (instead of $160)

Current SPK members only pay $120.

Helmets:
Any DOT approved helmet. Snell/M95 etc. are fine.
If your helmet is open face, you must wear eye protection. Thin glasses that don't cover the whole eye are not permitted.
They have loaner helmets available.

First post updated with all info!

PLEASE NOTE: We will be meeting at noon!.
It will be sunny, bring water/sunscreen/bug spray.

We will be setting up the DCAWD tent, so it will be easy to spot us :)

Some of us will be leaving for summit early. I'm leaving Springfield at 8 and need to make a quick stop in Vienna to pick up a straggler. If you want to caravan with me, feel free!

Added map for directions inside Summit and also put gloves under the equipment. Last year, this was something that I really wish I had brought.

A couple of people have asked what kind of clothes to wear:
Closed-toed are all that is required, so I'll be either wearing Vibrams (I hope they allow them) or tennis shoes.

No requirement on clothing other than something that you will be comfortable in for a couple of hours outside.

My personal recommendation: White will keep you the coolest (it is supposed to be near 90F tomorrow), but will also get pretty dirty. The karts are pretty clean, but after rubbing on them for a couple of hours, things tend to pick up dirt. I wouldn't wear something that you love, it might get crap on it. I'll probably wear a lighter colored shift and shorts. Make sure to bring appropriate sunscreen! I'll be wearing SPF 15, but if you burn easy, grab some 30+.

Karting starts at noon, Summit Point opens at 8 :) Just some clarification so people don't get confused, haha.
