Good Deal for TBE?

Post by HappyIdiot »

Now that I have the headers and UP, I've been browsing around for a shorty DP and maybe CBE. I was thinking about going with the Stromung DP and the Borla hush down the road. I was looking in the private/for sale at Nasioc today. Is this a good deal?

Thank you!

I can't see the images at work but the SPT cat-back would be a good choice as it is a Subaru part and won't draw any unwanted attention. I have been running the Bosal single tip (which is the same exhaust) for about 6 years and have never even had a second glance from VA's finest. You can get them new for $450 new from Daddy's (www.daddysscp.com). You can also get the Stromung shorty dp from them for $188. These two "new" would only be $638 from Daddy's.

The other option might be a SureWin V2 catback (http://stores.ebay.com/surewinproducts) $115 (+$85 shipping)
I've seen a couple and they look really nice and don't scream "aftermarket." IIRC goob_os101 has one on his 92x. It didn't sound too bad to me.

And even if it's just too loud, you can always insert an auger style muffler from Speedway Motorsports: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway- ... ,1736.html
I used one in my Forester and it made a huge difference!

Thank you Dr. I think I'll go with the Stromung DP for now and pick up a CBE after I've recovered from the holidays. I don't want anything loud, just better performance and better sound. The Bosal looks like a good choice :D

if you order from daddysscp and there is a problem with the transaction, the guy who runs it usually drops off the face of the planet. he's also known for not updating his inventory status of parts on his site (lists out of stock stuff as in stock).

if you can get it from another site for a comparable price, i suggest doing so. he sucks.

If he hasn't sold that SPT yet and yopu can get it for $350 or so it would be a good grab!

That looks in pretty decent shape! For whatever reason, I thought the SPT narrowed to 2.5" at the catback, but that looks 3" all the way through. The DP also has a bung for a wide-band O2 :)

If you're interested, I'd sell my catted Daddy's SCP DP to ya. Just throw me a fair offer :)

On the nasioc sale dp looks like a Helix which goes for around $400
The SPT looks to be in great shape. It's probably worth grabbing it if he's willing to sell for $300 or so.
And Julian will probably give you a really good deal on his Daddy's dp. It's nice.

Since I have some free time, I decided to start wrapping the headers. I need help with the sliding portion though. Would it be best if I cut the wrap there, used a steel tie, and then started again on the other side or is there a better option?

Do NOT wrap over the locking pin assembly!
If you tighten that down you will not be able to install them.
I would PM Gabe (Mr Kleen) and get his input as he has wrapped the same set.

Get that stuff wet. Really. I'm serious.
YOu can take the screw out of the slip joint, raise the 'lever' and layer some wraps under it. Then put the slide lever back and replace the screw.

Let me give that a shot and see what it looks like. I was doing it dry first to see how much I needed to cut and to do a test fit before I soaked the wrap.

I went right over top but left a very small opening around each bolt in the slip joint.

also (unless the wrap packaging says not too) soak the wrap in water for a bit before wrapping. as it dries it will tighten up. it's messy and requires you to wrap well before installing, but produces great results.
