2012 BMW 135i "FBO" build

Post by Mr Kleen »

Only a few "custom" parts in my 135 build thus far, and those are cosmetic. Every power-adder has been COTS. Should I keep it to myself or share with the group?

You know I would be interested.
I'm still upset that the Juice box was such a bust.

Nina: my 2012 BMW 135i with M-Sport package and DCT

Mod List

GO:
JuiceBox 4 with full CANBUS integration (allows map switching via steering wheel controls)
BMS intake
BMS 3.5" DP
BMS charge pipe with meth bung (no meth plans, the bung was free)
VRSF FMIC
18" VMR 710's power coated bronze
Hankook Ventus V12 summer tires
Cool Carbon brake pads
HardBrakes Titanium shims
Bavarian Autosport stainless brake lines
ATE Super Blue brake fluid
heat reflective foil wrapped air box
custom "black sock" power steering reservoir cover (yes, it's the end of a black sock)

SHOW:
BMW M-Sport Alcantara steering wheel
LeatherZ Alcantara parking brake boot (matches the tricolor stitching of the M-Sport wheel)
custom silver carbon fiber interior trim by OCarbon.com
military green foil wrap
Cravenspeed GoPro Camera Mount
BMW shadowline kidney grills
Rieger Tuning diffuser
rear splash guards
coded to "unlock" various features
removed ugly airbag warning labels from the sun shades
smoked LED side markers
4 point trunk mounted cargo net (harder to install than you might think...)
LED trunk light (super nice, has me thinking I need to upgrade all the interior lighting to LED)
Grocery Grabber trunk mounted bag holder (not as useful as I had hoped)

WAITING FOR INSTALLATION:
M3 rear subframe bushings

NEAR FUTURE:
M3 suspension

DREAMING OF:
Evolution Racewerks widebody kit (while I'm dreaming, make it dry CF)
M3 style hood
LSD (found a good deal in the US but too heavy to ship to my APO, sadpanda)
StopTech brake upgrade
upgraded clutches for the DCT
M3 shift paddles (you would think this would be easy, you would be wrong)

After doing the ISO mod (snipping one of the diodes) and upgrading to the latest firmware the car runs MUCH better. :nana: In fact I'd say Nina is nearly as fast as Betty, the only difference being AWD. The N54 was a much more mature tune, the N55 has only been out for 2 years and Burger Tuning just got an N55 135i (with DCT even) a year ago. The new firmware and hardware "update" is the first real progress for us single turbo peeps. I was contemplating doing a meth install but those plans are on indefinite hold now.

Wow, you've definitely got alot of work in to Nina!

Maybe next time I'm out we'll have better luck with weather. ;)

I am so glad to hear that it all worked out. I felt awful for recommending it since my buddy's experience with them on his 335i had been so good.
I was so confident (as was he) that it would work with no problem. I was shocked that you had so many issues. I wanted to crawl into a hole and hide in shame.

I attended BMW Welt 4.0 Friends ReUnited over the weekend in Munich. It was really cool to see Welt in person and to see what German BMW fans were doing with their cars. I had some coding done at the show as well: traffic info on the navi, traffic warnings via radio, I can now fold the mirrors and roll the windows up with the fob, the angel eyes are 2 watts brighter (can't really tell), the adaptive headlights now work both horizontally AND vertically (US spec is horizontally only), and the hazard lights double flash. There might be some more, he did so much I can't remember it all. He kept popping his head out of the car and asking "Would you like the car to _____" so I lost track. :rolllaugh:

The only modification to report is that I finally got around to properly mounting my fire extinguisher in the trunk. It's great to have around what with all the Ferraris in Wiesbaden.

Bonus: I made the backing plate out of the remnants of a Belgian Bier gift box.

FMIC was ordered Monday, should be on it's way...

For me and €110.

Found a great price on a StopTech BBK but it won't quite fit under my wheels with the balance weights on, will need 19" wheels to be safe. I decided to use the cash to start an M3 suspension conversion. More news as the situation develops...

Internally mounted cameras are allowed at the 'Ring this season! This is my first try at recording. The audio is too muffled and I don't set any lap records but I had a great time and no one crashed. Within an hour of this video the place was a madhouse. The weather was perfect, the best for a touristenfahrten so far this year.

I wasn't able to use CineForm Studio to post process the video. Every time I tried to "protune" it, the file sizes were too large for my limited software to edit together or to post to YouTube, so this is the video quality exactly as it came out of the Hero 3B.

Maybe, but it looks like a really clean run with good lines throughout.
You are only overtaken twice, and one is a motorcycle.
By the way, was that a Ford Capri that went by the first time? He was flying!
And you certainly passed a good number of folks.

That is Most important! I enjoyed being along for the ride, even if it was just vicariously through a video.

It's really difficult to live in a foreign country sometimes, this thread is just the cream. Things tend to balance out if that gives you any idea of the how hard other things have been...

Build update: VRSF intercooler arrived yesterday!

Not sure when I'll be able to install it as the Auto Skills Shop is closed for the holiday weekend. Wish I had my own garage. /sigh

What a beautiful piece.
If it's any consolation, I have had a new turbo and TMIC for over two months waiting for install.

The VRSF isn't a show-quality piece by any means. But considering that you only see the front face (and that's behind a grill) AND the fact that it was $450 shipped verses $650 + shipping for the next cheapest I could find (Wagner) I'll forgive it's cosmetic faults.

That's even cheap for a Subaru part, I can't believe you found a Bimmer part for that! Awesome find!

If things work out I might do the FMIC on Friday.
