My 2012 WRX 'Build'

Post by Phibs »

Not really a build but these are the parts I plan on installing once I break the car in:

http://gallery.bsd-unix.net/index.php/c ... X/Upgrades

Running an OpenPort/OS tune from Torqued Performance, currently at stage 1. Stage 2 after I install the parts above. I plan on going
to his stage 3 map after that and staying there. ( No more bigger turbos/injectors for me until the car is 5+ years old! )

Highly recommend this guy btw: http://torquedperformance.com/2012-WRX_c21.htm

Comments / Suggestions welcome :)

Only thing I would say is if you are staying with the stock turbo, just go to a larger Top Mount Intercooler. The reason being, you're not going to overwhelm it with the stock turbo and by switching to a FMIC, you are just going to add lag.

Yeah check the upgrades pics I linked ;) Going with a Fast Motorsports TMIC mostly because the stock IC is TINY and prone to issues with the plastic side tanks / clips.

Parts List awaiting 1000 miles (break in):

Cobb DP (Ordered car with the SPT Catback so that is already done)
Turbo heat shield (Unless someone is good at cutting the stock one to fit with the Cobb ;) )
FMS TMIC
DW 65C Fuel Pump
Grimmspeed EBCS
K&N CAI

Future mods:

Sway bars
Performance/Race pads or bigger brakes altogether
Suspension
Short throw shifter
1 Step colder plugs (Debating, tuner said unless i'm tracking / racing it shouldn't be an issue)

did you ask eric about that top mount? Ive talked to him before about top mounts and he says basically stay away from most unless its a perrin or if you have the money go process west. He says theres a lot of them out there that you can spend money on and will actually be worse than the stock tmic.

Yeah I talked to him before grabbing it. The FMS is a copy of the Process West supposedly.

The DW65C fuel pump has been installed, figured I would let it sit by itself for a week to make sure everything is solid. (That and it took awhile, do not like the fuel pump setup vs my 2005 STI!)

For anyone else thinking of doing this to a newer scooby, these are pretty good resources:

Next weekend the rest of the parts should go on!

I guess I have not been following the mods to the newer (08+) Subies.
Is the fuel pump really necessary on the stock turbo, even at high boost?
I know folks added the Walbros to the older ones to gain a bit of headroom for the stock injectors, but the fuel pump wasn't really the weak spot.

Yes, Eric from Torqued Performance (Tuner) said at higher boost levels with his stage 3 map (20 PSI) the stock pump is left wanting so it is similar to what you said, headroom / safety.

Yeah my only issue was the clips holding in the OEM pump, had to use 4 flat head screwdrivers and a lot of determination. The OEM finally popped out hehe.

Got the Cobb catted dp and the k&n intake installed but was missing hardware for my FMS tmic so left that and the ebcs off. Running a TP stage 2 map specific for this combo, still have to log to make see everything is kosher. Does anyone have any experience doing an instruction less FMS tmic install I could use some help. Pizza and beer available :)

I think it's a replica of the process west tmic, if you can find instructions for the process west it should be almost identical i would think
