Bolts, kinda need them for stuff

So last week I was driving to the Amtrak station. Getting off the Mass Ave exit going up hill, push the brake pedal and it goes all the way to the floor  :notcool: , with a combination of pumping and hand brake, I managed not to hit the cars in front of me. The closest place to park was where I was going anyways, so I kept going to the station.
Parked, got out and there was a puddle of brake fluid forming on my right rear wheel. I bend down and take a look. I find the brake piston staring back at me over the top of the rotor because the slide pin bolt was absent and no longer keeping the caliper in place.
Got back home, and saw that I was very lucky that the piston had not gotten lost. It was just hanging on to the caliper by the dust boot and somehow did not get scuffed up by the rotor.
So a quick $18 later at RockAuto.com and I have a new set of seals and guide pins with bolts in the mail.
Funny thing is, it has been a good year and a half or more since I had last taken the caliper off to change pads.
I feel like I should safety wire these things in place...

I will respond to this thread as soon as I get back from checking my brakes.

on my STI, the pins had cotter pins to secure them. I'm guessing that that wasn't the case with your car?

with the 4pot/2pot combo, there should be a spring wire that goes through both pins at each side. not quite as good as individual cotter pins though.

edit: that's if he's using the 4/2pot combo. i guess i should have asked that first, eh?

Nothing special, just stock rear single piston.
Bolt 26387C left the premises.

Wait, stock rears?
That sounds like the brakes on a 2002 silver wagon.
Please don't tell me that is not the case.

Also the same as the brakes for the rear of the sedan, which was the vehicle shedding some weight.

Funny thing is, I would have had the perfect excuse to put on the Brembo rears. But thanks to a crooked Law Enforcement officer from Philly, I have 4-pot fronts and -$200.

Damn, just glad to hear you are ok. Looks like an easy fix, but I bet that was damn scarey. I had that happen to me on the way to a meet one time. Called up Matt and I think that Jason helped out too. For some odd reason I had a spare brake line with me and Matt brought tools. lol, I wasn't late to the meet :)

Was that the hard times meet where you rolled into the parking lot, floored it, slammed on the brakes next to black betty while Gabe nearly had a heart attack, jumped out and said "brakes work!" and laughed?

Because I lol'd.

Fairly certain it was when we were still living in Springfield.

Your eyes about jumped out of your head.
