Audi TT RS Spotted Undisguised on US Soil

Image

We've got the TT, we've got the more powerful TTS, now all we have to wait for is the super powerful TT RS and judging by these latest shots that wait is nearly over. Our spies caught this completely undisguised Audi TT RS prototype whilst undergoing some hot weather testing in Arizona.

When released at the end of the year, the TT RS will go head-to-head with the Porsche Cayman. There are reports the engine performance will be boosted to 350hp using twin sequential turbochargers, a figure that is low enough that it won't impede on the R8 but high enough to offers an attractive alternative to the 272hp TTS. All this power will be directed through Audi's permanent 4WD Quattro system and six-speed manual transmission.

Pricing for the new model is expected to start at around €50,000.

Cayman = €48.879,00
Cayman S = €60.303,00

I think I'd rather have the Cayman.

The problem is that Porsches are a lot like BMWs:
The base price always seems reasonable, but you can never get one for that.
A stripped Cayman will likely run you $55,000.
A stripped Cayman S will be around $65,000.

That is the problem I have with Porsches. I really like the Cayman, but the base Cayman is $54K+ and it's performance numbers just aren't impressive:
Base Cayman: $54k
0-60: 5.4
1/4 mile: 14.1 @ 98.4 mph
stopping 60-0: 112 ft
skidpad: .90
slalom mph: 69.8 mph

(take .5 second off the 0-60 and 1/4 times for the Cayman S and add .05 to the skidpad and .7 mph to the slalom)

STI: $35k
0-60: 4.8
1/4 mile: 13.9 @ 100.2 mph
stopping 60-0: 118 ft
skidpad: .92
slalom mph: 70.2 mph

And let's be blunt, the Cayman has 2 seats, no trunk, high maintenance cost, high insurance, no practicality and still won't go round a track quicker than an STI. Now, throw a turbo-back and a tune on the STI for about $1k and it ain't even close!
