electric "turbocharger"

When they talk it feels more like a "supercharger" than a "turbo", but a cool concept anyways.

The RS5 TDI concept employs a similar idea with a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 with an electric supercharger to make up for the turbo lag. It's able to pump out 385 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque and allegedly sprint to 62 miles per hour in four seconds.
The auto industry needs to start standardizing the vocabulary, as there appears to be some significant overlap when folks start talking/writing about this kind of technology.
I don't mind when the term "twin-charger" when used to describe a turbo/supercharger combo. But there definitely needs to be better clarification for an electric turbo charger than what was given in that article.

Agreed on the lingo!!

Cool tech! I still think that variable vein (sp?) turbos have a ton to offer.

Well this is the company that labeled their supercharged engine with a 'T' because people normally associate Audi forced induction with turbochargers.

Industry can standardize naming and Audi will still mess with it. :?

It's a German thing: Mercedes and BMW both insist that a coupe can have 4 doors. :notcool:
