Audi has announced the pricing for the 2014 Audi A8 L TDI, which is powered by a new 3.0 liter TDI clean diesel engine. The 2014 Audi A8 L TDI Starts at $82,500.

The A8 L TDI clean diesel, with quattro all-wheel drive is powered by a 3.0L diesel engine with 240 horsepower and 406 lb-ft. of torque. It gets an EPA estimated 24/ 36/ 28 mpg (city/ highway/ combined) and also reaches 0-60 MPH in 6.4 seconds. The A8 L TDI joins an expanding model line-up including the A8 3.0T, A8 4.0T, S8 4.0T and A8 W12. The A8 L TDI will be available in the long-wheelbase version only. The 2014 Audi A8 L TDI will go on sale in early Spring 2013. The 2014 Audi A8 L TDI is the first of four new TDI models to be introduced this year.
I know it's a BIG car, but I honestly expected better MPG numbers. That's a nice amount of torque though :)

I hope the A8L getting 36 means the A6 will be 40-42 8)

Even then I won't trust the EPA numbers, even for comparative purposes between other marques. Only thing EPA numbers I think can be utilized for is 'Oh, so it's more than the petrol model of this exact same car.'

My car was rated at like 32-33 combined, I regularly get 38+.

As for the big Audi, I have no caring. I'm waiting for the European marques to bring the really fuel efficient things to the states. Like the 1600cc and smaller engines.

I'm hoping to check out the 2.0 diesel 3-series BMW in March. The 2.0 gasser gets 34mpg, so I'm hoping the diesel sports sedan can hit 40's.
