Audi has just dropped more details about the 2013 Audi RS4 Avant. The new 2013 RS4 Avant is the third generation of the high-performance wagon, that was first introduced 12 years ago. According to Audi the 2013 RS4 Avant will reach 0-62 mph in 4.7 seconds and has a governed top speed of 155 mph, which can be increased to 174 mph.

The 2013 RS4 Avant also gets other modifications like a .sport suspension with a .79-in lower ride height, wave design brakes with carbon-fiver ceramic discs and front calipers that have eight pistons, 19-inch forged alloy wheels. meh. new body style, same motor as old RS4. I wanted to see a hot-rodded 3.0T for this instead.

They are putting that 3.0T in everything now, it is surprising they didn't put it in this.

but that's a seriously nice, proven, reliable v8! how often does one get to say that about the four rings of doom?

its not fuel efficient though and MB is cleaning Audi's clock in terms of power/efficiency. the new 4.6TT in the 550 models is stellar: 402hp/443tq (full torque at 1800rpm) and 26mph with the 4MATIC/AWD drivetrain (i.e. about what an STI gets  ). no gas guzzler tax and 12.x sec 1/4 mile. No AMG tax either....base models get that motor.

The Torque Report
Audi has something to celebrate today. The automaker has taken the top two spots at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans with the Audi R-18 e-tron quattro diesel hybrid. The win also marks the first time that a hybrid has ever taken the top spot.

The four Audi R18 cars from Audi Sport Team were the quickest and most reliable vehicles and after 24 hours occupied positions one, two, three and five. "By achieving this further success at the world's most important endurance race our engineers demonstrated their high technological expertise in a particularly impressive way," commented Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi.

"With the e-tron quattro in combination with ultra lightweight design, we put a completely new technology on the grid and immediately won with it - this cannot be taken for granted by any means, particularly here at Le Mans. This weekend again showed the type of things that can happen in this race and how important perfect preparation is."

All four Audi R18 cars were powered by a 510-hp 3.7L V6 TDI diesel engine with VTG mono turbocharger and a new ultra-light transmission with a carbon fiber housing.
Yep, they are definitely not good at engine design... 402/443 out of a 4.6 isn't that good.... the Audi 3.0T officially does 333 hp @ 5,500 - 7,000 and 325 lbs. ft. @ 2,900 - 5,300 rpm.

not that good? that's rated power. dyno plots and reflashed cars have shown that there's a lot on the table still. Actual test results of the new x550 cars from MB show them to be scorchers.....CLS550 has >110mph trap speed in the 1/4 (this from a 4100lb car)

The BMW version is 4.4L and 400hp/450tq and is also known to be underrated.

That;s why I said official :) The 3.0T from Audi in the S4 is known to put 320WHP down in stock form.... definitely underrated.

Audi 4.0 TT in the S6 does 0-60 in 3.7 and the 1/4 in 11.8. :O

So the S6 is significantly faster than the new RS4.

That's what disappoints me most. Not that BMW or Merc are going to mop the floor with Audi now that they have new engines... It's that Audi sandbagged it worse than the others.

I still like the Audi styling best, but I'd probably go with AMG or ///M over an RS4, until they put the 4.0 in it.

S4 tuned would likely be a better competitor to the new M3, since it will have an upgraded 335is engine.

About two years back, I followed an RS6 Avant westbound on the Dulles Greenway. With VAG being in Herndon now, we're seeing a lot more non USDM cars around. :nana:

Very cool you got to see the RS4 Avant in person. The only US-excluded Audi I've spotted was an A1.

Indeed.
Saw a white one in Hong Kong. After the CRAZY amount of exotics we spotted while walking around, everyone in the group was speechless when I told them THAT is my dream car.
