looking for a cheap in-dash CD player

Post by drwrx »

I picked-up a cheap commuter / beater (2002 Protege, 80k miles $3,500) and the CD stereo is dead so I'm looking for something to take it's place.

If anyone has something lying around that you want to get rid, of or know someone who does, let me know. If I don't hear anything in a few days, I might just go buy something new.

If you don't source one from someone, Crutchfield has good deals all the time.

Oddly, I got it working. The fuse for the interior dome light was blown and that fixed it.
The screen is totally screwed-up so there is no display at all.
That said, the player is huge and the hole may very well fit the 6 disc Subaru unit. I'll do some measuring when I get home tonight.

Yes, it should be a double-din sized opening and should bolt in. The surrounding trim may be an issue though.

Companies like Metra sell vehicle harness adapters for aftermarket radios as well as radio harness adapters. Might be as simple as wiring up any other head unit.

I was thinking that you would probably need 2 harnesses to get a Subaru head unit to work: one for the Subaru radio and one for the Mazda wiring harness.
I think it would be easier to get a cheap CD player from Crutchfield, but YMMV. :ugh:

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.
