You can't get pistons with a larger dish in them?

A higher compression ratio is not a bad thing with any turbo. Read my post here. The most important thing is tuning!

You can, but there is not that much wiggle room there. Starts to get pretty thin and expensive. Getting shorter rods is not cheap either, but you don't loose strength.
Could also sleeve the 2.5 block to decrease the displacement, but then you def need non-standard pistons, I dunno.

Just a warning. The 6-speed in the new Subarus are not nearly as high quality as their STi brethren. I've heard they're no stronger than the stock WRX 5-speed. Not that it matters that much for what you'll be using it for. Just making sure you're informed.

That aside. I'd love to have a 2010 outback. Good luck!

But 6 speeds are one louder.

I took the Outback for a nice test drive up Hooes Rd. I felt great. It handled the curves well and did not feel bad on the uphills. Overall I am liking it alot. As far as the 6spd...You have to shift quite a bit more and throws are big. I am going over to see Matt tomorrow to see an Automatic.

Why not just get a 5 speed and make 5th gear louder?

Got a great quote from Agile Automotive for a 2.1 stoker including:

EVOIII turbo, DeatschWerks 565's, RPS street max clutch, Mahle stroker pistons, Cosworth rod bearings and a tune.

Saving me $1500 :hitit:

[Strike]I'd be ready to pay double that quote (it just seems much too low for what's involved, but maybe I'm just being paranoid), but even then that's not a bad deal.[/Strike]

EDIT: Wait, read that wrong. Key word is "saving." So how much is it total?

DPS sugested an ACT stg 1 clutch and a light weight fly wheel. She will be babied for a few thousand miles

While those are great recommendations, I'lll still warn you to be gentle with your trans. I've seen plenty of people go through this EXACT situation:

Blown OEM motor ---> Hybrid motor rebuild ----> Blown stock trans ---->PPG trans

And then $15-$17k later they've got almost $40k dumped into a $20k car. Granted that car runs - very well even! But it was way more expensive than a new STi ever was. :(

Personally I'd avoid the light weight flywheel. Great on the track, not so great in traffic. And I'd avoid any clutch more aggressive than an organic lining.

Stock clutch or PPG gears, those are the options for us 5 speed owners.
