The luck continues

Post by Cereb Daithi »

Just blew the motor in the RS. I can hear wicked bad rod knock. Time to think about what to do. I'll keep you posted. I'd say more but right now I'm just pretty :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor:

So I now have TWO cars that are useless to me. Guess I'll keep you updated on how the rebuild goes now.

That is some awful luck, indeed. I'm wafting some good car vibes your way. Don't inhale.

Wow, that sounds like one angry engine. Hope it isn't as bad as it sounds.

I'm sure I did. Motors generally don't do just do this unless provoked. I'm fairly certain I only have myself to blame.

It's not like I haven't been expecting it. It's no secret that I drive cars very hard and the RS has had some serious hard driving in it's life. Between the crazed RallyX driving and the countless winding back-road miles I knew it'd probably happen sooner or later. It's just damned inconvenient at the moment. It will be fixed. But it just adds one more headache to the list and one more thing I need to work into the solution.

I checked the oil level and it's a bit low. I'm going to put some more in to see if perhaps this is just valve tap. On these 05 RS's if the oil starts to get low a sound similar to rod knock can occur from the hydraulic valve lifters or something around there or so I've heard. (I'm no tech so take my explanations with a grain of salt). Anyways I'm just surprised because rod knock usually isn't a instantaneous thing. It's progressive AND you generally don't spin bearings just turning the car on.

That being said. It REALLY does sound like rod knock though. :? And it doesn't explain where all my oil went. I'm almost certain I checked it not too long ago and it was ok.

I would check for a headless bloody chicken hanging by a rope around/near your house...and check under your bed for some strange drawings in blood.

Sorry to hear...that sucks.

I just hope there is something REALLY good coming down the line to offset this recent string of horrible luck.

one of the briefings Tuesday was about using GIS to do an alligator survey at one of the bases, so alligators were a hot topic last week. :rolllaugh:

Yep I didn't even realize I was buying a turnkey motor when I went to go pick it up. It's in pretty damn good shape! 30k less miles than the one I have in the car right now and it's warrantied for 90 days from the seller in case of any mechanical problems. $1k for the whole package. Not a bad deal considering I can rebuild the motor that's in the car right now and sell that for a couple hundred later on.
