Nothing like the smell of fuel in the morning

Post by goob_os101 »

did some research and found that there is great deal of ppl having the same issue of strong fuel smells in the cabin. Issues is the cold weather make the hoses(something) shrink and fuel sprays from 1 or all 3 hoses from the manifold. Subaru in Springfield won't touch my car since it is a Saab, but they are aware of the issue. Both VOB and International Saab have never heard of the issue. I called Saab customer service and they are looking into paying some or all the repair costs do the the safety issue.

The smell was so strong :puke:

Yup, this is a known issue on the WRX. I had the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) fix done a few years ago. At that time, Herb Gordon Subaru in Silver Spring informed me that this may have to be done again in a few years. Sure enough, I'm smelling that strong gas smell again this winter. Looks like I'll have to roll this into the upcoming 105K mile service. This one's gonna be costly... :(

Check the NHTSA web site and you'll find the TSB for this. Or try here: AllDataDIY.com. At least you could use this to show the Subaru or Saab dealerships that you're not crazy. :screwy:

Since I had "manipulated" my fuel system with A/M injectors and don't have the GBODS in place, I was not allowed to get the TSB fix done w/o paying for it... But yes, I had that problem too when it got really cold. Havn't seen the cold temps yet this year, so I hope it fixed itself

I've had it the last two days. Took the car in, since my belt squeek was back (despite what was probably too much belt conditioner), we'll see what they say.

Yep, don't smoke in my car. not that you could anyways, but the gas smell would be an added <dissuader>?

are you under warranty still?

Call SOA and let them know about the raw fuel smell. They know of the problem. SOA will open a case number and they may cover 100% of the repair costs do do the safety issue.

This just in:
Got a letter from SOA saying they are extending the fuel system warranty coverage for this to 12 years and unlimited mileage!

Looks like I get to try again.

Got my letter a couple days ago. Although Beyer did the TSB fix for me a few years ago anyway.
