Prodrive P2 supercar debuts this weekend, won't be produced

David Richards’ firm Prodrive will finally unveil its P2 sports car this weekend at the Autosport International Racing Car Show in Birmingham, England. The P2 is based on Subaru mechanicals and features an Impreza engine that’s been cajoled to produce 345 bhp. That motor is enough to launch to P2 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 174 mph.

Sounds fun, right? Unfortunately not even the uber-rich among us will be able to buy the P2, as Richards tells Autocar the car was produced to showcase the firm’s engineering abilities, as well as prove to his team of engineers and designers what can be done when they put their collective heads together.

The P2 uses a heavily altered cabin and scuttle from the Japan-only Subaru R1 micro-car, mated to all-new chassis structures and suspension to house a 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four and four-wheel-drive transmission from the Impreza WRX.

Weight will be around 1100kg, giving the car a power-to-weight ratio approaching 300bhp per tonne. The car’s shape and proportions are the work of McLaren F1 designer Peter Stevens, formed in composite under the close eye of Richards himself.

The P2 will show off two key Prodrive creations — a sophisticated traction and cornering stability system called ATD, plus a road-going anti-lag system for high-performance road-going turbo engines which provides instant power without the unacceptable noise and driveability compromises of the systems in rally cars.
sure is an ugly little thing. didn't realize it was based on a Subaru micro-car. at least some of the tech stuff should make it out to market. of course being Prodrive stuff I won't be able to afford it, but it will be out there...

Dude, anything that is in four wheels without a scramjet engine that can go one thouseand seven hundred fourty five miles per hour is worth whatever they paid for it.

[whisper] Um sir, I think there is supposed to be a decimal point between the four and the five[/whisper]

Oh, whell it is still fast.
Patience is the ability to idle your motor when you feel like stripping your gears

Good choice putting $4,000 rims on your 1990 Honda Civic. That's like Betty White going out and getting her tits done.
