Adjust your mirrors properly

Post by sirwilliam »

Adjust the driver’s seat to the correct position. Lean your head and torso over to the left until your head contacts the window glass. I know, that seems too far. But trust me. Now, adjust the left-side mirror outward until you can barely see your own fender in it. Next, lean over to the right a similar distance, and adjust the right-side mirror so you can just see your own rear fender. Sit up straight. Your mirrors are now set to allow you to see other cars in your blind spot. You won’t need to swivel your neck around to be aware of traffic hiding at 60 mph right beside you. And the interior mirror will still let you see the traffic directly behind.

Problem is, I am taller than most Nips, so I have to si further back from the wheel. There is not enough range on the mirrors to allow me to do that.

the other problem is that some people drive lunchbox sized cars these days that camp out in blindspots. i'll stick to the ol' "rear-view and head swivel" technique.

I have a 17" panoramic rear view.
Besides seeing straight back, the edges of that thing actually see farther left/right than my side mirrors do.

I have my side mirrors adjusted pretty similar to those instructions.
I did it not for blind spot coverage, but because I had a habit of mistaking "my own lane behind me" for "the lane to my side".

Well, I tried this procedure out yesterday and do not like the outcome. I feel even more blind w/ it setup like this. Back to the old way

It's supposed to eliminate the blind spot that you can't see even when turning your head. Keep working with it, it's better!

And everyone needs to remember: all cars touch the ground, but not all cars are 6 feet in the air, so adjust with a ground-ward bias, and save a Miata driver!

I might like it if it weren't in addition to the door mirrors. That screams retro-fail.

IMHO the fender flairs are awesome; the extra mirrors not so much...

side note: there is a Gabe that works for GRM. he drives a Subaru and he's from Kentucky. 8)
