Got an email late yesterday from Brian:

Hey Jason, just thought your gang would be interested:

He also had a LGT for awhile. So even though he's known for his Mini, he's still got a little Subaru in him. :)

I think last time I went the had a few. VERY few, like two. Still I wouldn't have put one of them on MY head even if it fit.

If you do end up buying one though, it's probably too late to order one online. You could go to Coleman Powersports in Falls Church and ask for the cheapest thing they have that'll fit you.

Other than all I can suggest is asking if anyone has a helmet you can borrow. I know I have an X-Small open-face helmet (no pun intended :)) that I've worn all of twice. You're welcome to it if you need it.

According to the SCCA website:
Q. Do I need to wear a helmet?
A. Yes. Insurance regulations require that all autocross participants wear seatbelts and Snell-approved helmets during all runs. Helmets must either meet the current or two previous Snell standards. These standards change every five years. As a result, helmets with the 2005, 2000, and 1995 Snell standards are currently acceptable. Loaner helmets are available at many autocrosses, including the local WDCR SCCA events.
So, any Snell helmet that you can find, as long as it is 2005, 2000 or 1995 will work.

And to double check this, I went to the Solo Rule Book
4.3 DRIVER’S SAFETY EQUIPMENT
4.3.1 Helmets
Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on
course: All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding
Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI standards
31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable. Helmets meeting
British spec BS6658-85 type A/FR are also acceptable.
For maximum protection, helmets must fit securely and should
provide adequate peripheral vision. The chin strap must be
securely fastened. Loaner helmets should be available to vehicle
occupants not having their own.
So, a helmet that is only DOT approved it does not meet these requirements.

I recommend you try your helmet on (so this means find it in a local store). It needs to fit snug and not slide around at all. You may feel that you have a large noodle, but when it comes to helmets they just aren't the same as ball caps. I grabbed mine at Speed Unlimited a couple years back for about $100. I would not count on getting a loaner from Brian (and even if he had one, I wouldn't want to wear it...), so either coordinate with another participant or get out and buy one.

So using Chuck's link for Coleman, did a search for 'snell' and came up with a bunch: http://www.wherethepoweris.com/catalog_ ... &submit=Go Some down into the $50's (for XS) and in the $70's doesn't look too hard (for a L in a normal color)

Also, of note, does anyone have a large cooler they can bring? I'll supply the ice and the bottled water, and it would be good for people to have a place to stash any gatorade, etc they bring.

Check back tomorrow evening (say just before taco's) and I should have some stuff up on lunch options.

Can someone from Chez DCAWD bring the pop-up canopy? If it's sunny out, it'll be good to have some shade. If it's rainy, it'll be good to have some shelter. Perhaps a table or two and some chairs if anyone (or perhaps everyone) has them? I've got two chairs I can bring and a little card table if needed.

I could also bring some tools a jack and some jack stands. Ya never know what might happen out there. If I recall, sabre had his rear sway bar pop out and had to fix it in the parking lot.

Don't forget your sunscreen, hat, rain gear, etc.

chicken n waffles: I have a spare helmet that I can bring. It's not as funky as the SCCA loaner helmets.

The weather is supposed to be decent so bring sunscreen. Definitely bring a chair.

he now knows on which side the washer should be installed. :poke:

we'll need some weights for the canopy if it's windy.

bring rain gear so it doesn't rain. bring sunscreen because skin cancer sucks. air up your tires, fill up your tank and empty the crap out of your car the night before. bring some water. pay attention. have fun.

First post updated!! Check the bottom for additional notes on class prep, what to bring, and the exact location at Fedex Field!!

As far as weights for the canopy, I'm sure there will be about a dozen or so spare tires laying around, combined with some bungee cords and we'll do alright. ;)

I'm going to plan on getting there really damn early, partially to get a feel for the area and scope out lunch. If someone wants to organize a caravan from Springfield you're more than welcome, I'd just say aim early, you'll be hitting the early end of the rush hour across the Wilson.
