2005 DCAWD AutoX class with Brian Garfield! Part II
So, sounds like there is some interest in another level 1&2 class. At this point we are just guaging interest. So, serious and committed individuals (in contrast to "committed, seriously"), shout out.
To answer your questions:
- Yes, price is TBD, but most likely around $220-$250
- Yes, location is TBD, but most likely MD
- Yes, date is TBD, but most likely October
- Yes, DCAWD > 99.9% of the known universe
- No, Cavalier < 99.99999% of the known universe
While we're at it, lets start guaging interest in the level 3 class. When you shout out, let me know which one you are interested in. To participate in the level 3 you need to have taken a level 1 and level 2 class or have significant AutoX experience (by Brian's definition, not ours).
Level 1&2:
1) WRXWagon2112 (WRX WAG -mirror)
2) Mr Kleen (WRX SED w/ mirrors)

5) xcntrk75

I think the lack of a mirror puts you into modified, it would be considered an attempt to reduce weight.WRXWagon2112 wrote:Level 1 & 2, please! And correct me if I'm wrong, but one doesn't need a mirror to run an Auto-X course, right?

Look, I got lost on the last AutoX course I took, okay?
Of the subarus that were there, Brian drove mine 2'nd fastest on the course, after FT's race preped STi. I didn't.
I think I was too woried about video taping the thing and swapping wheels that I didn't concentrate on driving. Let me do the best I can on level 2 and if he is satisfied, then I'll go for 3.

lol, I didn't know you got lost on course... I can see how it would be pretty easy. I definitely was much better in my second lvl1/2 class. I was second behind Jard, who's a damn good driver.

Crosspost from NASIOC:

Keefe is organizing a L1&2 this year, probably the best shot for folks to get in. Keefe is a good guy, I wouldn't have any problems trusting him with my money. And besides, how many more wheels can a guy buy?

I posted up at the NASIOC thread, but it all depends on the timing for me.
my question to the folks who have taken the class is: is it worth the money/time/tires to take the class if you don't really have any intention of doing autocross any time soon? I'm more of a track day sort of guy. the idea of waking up at the crack of dawn and standing around all day for 5 minutes of seat time isn't very appealing. I know autoX is cheap, but I'd almost rather just do 1 HPDE a year. hey, maybe we could rent out a track for a day sometime?!? OK, I know, time to buy a lotto ticket...

I like the autox class because it is at more controlled speeds in a more controlled environment. No worries about blowing turn #3 and totalling your car, or that Porsche sliding the width of the track and taking you out. In addition to this, the conditions are more like you would find in street driving, think of a slalom as dodging a kid running after a ball (if you bother), the corner boxes like making a quick right at a light at full speed, the long sweepers like exit ramps. It's as close to driving like an asshat on the roads as you can get without getting a ticket.

I have nothing but good things to say about my 1st and only track experience. NASA HPDE1 is the way to go, no question about it. you decide your own level of speed and instructors are in every car to make sure everybody is playing nice. I only really "pushed" once and even then I didn't push hard and had plenty of flat grass runoff area.
all this makes me wish we could rent out a track for a day, or maybe just get our own DCAWD session for an HPDE event. just having people you know and trust out there with you would make everybody feel better I think. no young a$$hats with exotic cars purchased by mommy and daddy to t-bone your daily driver.
maybe we should look into everybody signing up for the same HPDE event next spring and at least load the class up with even keeled folks? I'm due for another go, it's been over a year now.

I couldn't say it better than Jason. This is a great chance to get out and push your car to the limits in a safe place. Brian is an AWESOME teacher too.
Renting out a track... well, kind of hard for us to do, but I'll see what kind of interest there is If there is enough, we could definitely do it.
