Movember 2010 - DCAWD.com team for charity!

Post by ElZorro »

So, we did this last year and kicked some serious ass - seven team members (Sabre, Complacent, MrKleen, Zaxrex, WRXWagon2112, myself and one non-DCAWD member) raised $1,150 for men's health. Please consider contributing in some way - as a team member, sporting a Mo and raising money, or contributing to the team. Everyone here is a man or has a dad/brother/boyfriend/celebrity crush, lets make a difference.
Hi.

I’m joining the growing club of modern gentlemen who believe in the virtues of fine moustachery, immaculate grooming and growing a moustache for Movember. I am looking for like-minded ladies and gentlemen to join my team to change the face of men’s health.

Movember is about raising funds and awareness for men's health, specifically cancer affecting men, because:

· 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in his lifetime, 1 in 3 women will be

· A man is 35% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than a woman is to be diagnosed with breast cancer

· 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime

· A man dies of prostate cancer every 16 minutes

It’s time we did something about this.

The more people I can get on board, the more lives we can impact. I am asking you to join my team and either grow a moustache as a Mo Bro, or join as a Mo Sista to help recruit other gentlemen.

To join my Movember team go to http://us.movember.com/register/135956 and follow the steps.

To contribute to Team DCAWD.com go to http://us.movember.com/donate/your-deta ... id/135956/ .

Once registered you'll be sent all the information you need to raise funds and start growing as part of my Movember team.

If you’re interested in learning more about the work that is being carried out as a result of Movember funds, feel free to read the details at http://us.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

I hope you join me to change the face of men’s health.

A couple rules for this year, since some folks (coughSabrecough) didn't exactly go with the spirit of things last year ;)
  • On 01NOV, post a picture of your clean shaven face.
  • Each week, post an updated picture.
  • By 10NOV you need to be trimmed down to a Mo, meaning the hair can't connect under your mouth (no Goat).
  • At the end of the month post one last picture. We'll have a poll for best Mo and I'll have a prize for the winner.
Another potential prize - they are continuing with the Gala events this year, and have added Washington DC to the locations. Depending on how much we raise we may have some tickets to the event.

So, who's in!?!?!?!?!?

Actually, the issue with prostate cancer is likely far worse than is reported.
I know of several urologists that believe if a man lives long enough he WILL develope prostate cancer of some degree.
He may not die "of" it, but he will die "with" it. Think of it as nature's way of culling the heard.
Sadly the treatments, while improving, are far from risk-free. The rate of impotence and incontinence are extremely high for prostate cancer patients undergoing any of the multitude of treatments. Sadly, depending on the stage and type, there are no "good" decisions on treatment. I have done a great deal of study on this as my dad has advanced prostate cancer.
Also, I'm happy to support DCAWDs efforts. However, I couldn't grow a beard to save my life, so mine will be purely emotional and monetary support.

I don;t know what you are talking about with this "not staying in the rules" Jason

Despite Suzie's objections, I believe I will be supporting again by growing my <facial> hair out :) I'm not sure I'm interested in your prize though  :rolllaugh:

I can't remember (that normally means at least a year)

Fact: 100% of 100 year old men have prostate cancer. Live long enough, and you'll get it.
