Any suggestions

Post by Bluestreak2006 »

I'm finally getting some wheels (used) and the tires on them have like 25% tread left. The wheels are 17x7.5 e48. So i'm asking you guys for some advice. I guess i'm looking at 215/45/17 or 225/45/17. I'm looking for some low priced summer/all season tires that will perform better than my re92's since i'm selling my stockers w/ tires. So any info will help. Especially if anyone has a hook up for cheap tires. Thanks
Jay

Since I've become a Kumho nut I'll chime in with:

Summer performance tire: Kumho ECSTA SPT

All-season performance tire: Kumho ECSTA ASX

Both are cheap and highly effective. :D

if you're looking for all-season tires, these get a +1 from me.
I don't have any experience with their summer tires.

I loved the crap out of my Khumo's (Exsta Supra 712's). Much more than the Falken Azines that everyone raved about.

I don't have any time on the new tires.

PM drwrx, he keeps up on these frequently.

Did I just hear someone say that they are thinking of selling some 17" wheels? What would you want for them?

I have some mint 06 stockers w/ 4500 miles on them w/ the RE92's. No scratches, curb rash, or dents/bends. The tires still have nipples along the sidewall. I have an thread in for sale and in the MAIC on NASIOC. I'm asking $600 obo. If you want them I could even bring them to the meet at Vinny's.

Sadly, I'm going to use them on the Forester, so the tires would have to come off. That pretty much counts me out.

You could always sell the tires. They are pretty much brand new. If I decide to split it up i'll let you know.

Darrin,

Hmm, I am putting on the new WRX wagon suspension this Sunday, so I will see if my 17" tires still fit (235/55/17 Pirelli PZero Nero M+S w/ lots of tread left which are perfect for the XT for filling the wheel well gap). If the Pirelli's don't fit w/ the new suspension, I would be willing to trade you straight up for the stock WRX tires. Let me know if you are interested.

OK how does this work again? Will sees if the new suspension fits his wheels and tires, if not, I buy your wheels and tires and have the tires swapped from Will's, right?

There is one issue. Removal, remounting and balancing of 8 wheels and tires will easily run $200+. Would you and I split that Will? Also, the wife would have to like the WRX 17" wheels, it is her's after all.

I should also say that I found a deal at Discount Tire Direct for a set of 17" MB Weapons (in that cool gun metal grey) with 235/50ZR-17 Falken Ziex ZE-512 mounted and shipped for $912. So when this deal starts getting close to that deal you can see why I might be a bit gun shy.

So how about I drop the price to $550. I also have access to a tire machine even though I haven't used one in ages. So I could seperate them I guess. So Sirwilliam when did you plan on putting the wagon suspension on. I don't know how large the wheel wells are on the Forester but I know on the wagons we don't see many folks running above 225 width especially if they are lowered which I suspect you are. Well guys let me know.
