General G-MAX AS-03s

Post by goob_os101 »

First off these tires saved my life this morning.

I was driving down the highway(wet, but not raining) at 55mph when the car in front of me suddenly swerved out of the lane. I then see why they did; there was an 8ft aluminum ladder across the lane. With nowhere to go, I had to hit the ladder. The Saabaru went up on the two passenger tires. When the two drivers side tires reunited with the pavement the car started to slide back and forth, but due to the stiff sidewalls and great wet traction of these tires I was able to maintain control and safely exit the highway. Once on the shoulder I inspected the car and tires and there was no damage (minor dent underside of the front bumper).

I only have less than 100 miles on the G-MAXs and I love them. I haven’t pushed them hard yet since I am still breaking them in.

Mileage: less than 100
Dry Traction: Lots of grip, but haven’t pushed them hard yet
Wet Traction: Lots of grip, no hydroplaning, but haven’t pushed them hard yet
Control: Turns are crisp, feels more like a summer tire.
Ride Comfort: Not too noisy, a bit stiff, but I am also on Mach V springs.
Tread life: New

I will continue to update this thread

I was reading reviews about these....look like a great budget option for winter tires for the mild winters we get here. I need a set for the new BMW my wife got.

Update...

Tires are about done @ 2 1/2 years and just over 20,000 miles

Once I went stage 2 the tires statred to wear quick..especialy on the outsides :drive:

Pros:
GReat dry/wet/snow grip

Cons:
wore quick and need constant attention to psi.

any recomendation for the next round of all season tires (205/55/16)?
and I am kicking around the idea of going with a Subtle 1" lift

You might want to consider:

Kumho Ecsta PA31: Very highly rated for all conditions ($74)

Sumitomo HTR A/S P01: Really good dry, ok wet, not so great snow. I had these on my Mazda protege and the dry grip was very impressive. ($75)

Falken Ziex ZE-612: Very good all-around tire. Had these on my FXT a few years back and loved them. They did everything well. Lasted almost 40k miles ($78)

Kumho Ecsta 4X (KU22): One of Tire Rack's highest rated all-season performance tires. ($84)

I've used the Kumho Ecsta 4X, great tire for the money. Thinking about replacing the all season RFTs on the X1 with a set of them.

I am really thinking of going with a 1" lift and 215/60/16 and Kumho Ecsta PA31s
