MAIC Skyline Drive Drive - 10/10

Post by captainslow »

People from MAIC are doing a drive at Skyline Drive on October 10th. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=2033790

I imagine this will be more of a very slow cruise than a run b/c it coincides with foliage traffic.

Btw are there any other local drives going on in the fall? I miss cruising with friends in beautiful rural areas this time of year.

it's 100% possible that I could show up for this. I'll put it on the calender, see if it sticks...

edit: that's in the middle of a 3 day weekend. we might be on holiday. if not I'm totally down with a cruise.

Now I can't even make this meet.

But is there any interest in doing a DCAWD Skyline Drive cruise one of these days?

Lessee... Late Fall...

How about in October: Saturday the 23rd, Sunday the 24th, or later, Halloween? Any thoughts?

i'd be much more interested in a dcawd drive than a maic one. i've done the maic drive thing. very dangerous and full of stupid people who run into things.

It looks like most can make October 24th.

Do you guys have any preferences for distance? I usually enter at Thornton Gap and drive north to Front Royal, partly to avoid DC traffic, and also to enjoy the scenery down by Sperryville. But that's only about 25 miles. Swift Run Gap is the next entrance, which is about 43 miles. I don't really care if we start at Front Royal and make our way down, or end at Front Royal.

I'm not sure how we would want to handle pulling over for overlooks. I'm not looking to tear through the park so if we want to stop and look around, that's fine with me, but I'm worried that we might get split up. However, it's not like anyone's going to get lost, so maybe that's not a big deal.

Maybe we could do dinner afterward. I have a recommendation for Sorak Garden (http://www.yelp.com/biz/sorak-garden-re ... -annandale) - a Korean bbq place in Annandale. It's good for a large group and I don't think reservations would be necessary. But just a suggestion.
