Okay, saw this in the Crutchfield big book (very evil, evil book  ).

Anyway, it is the Alpine IDA-X001...and it is freakin' sweet!

Did I also mention it has bluetooth capability? :D

While I LOVE the screen... I just can't bring myself to pay that much for something without a CD/DVD drive :(

have you seen an isometric view? the giant knob in the center sticks waaaay out.

Eclipse has a new 2xDIN with a detachable TomTom nav unit. it doesn't have an optical media bay either...

Yeah, I didn't even notice that this didn't have a CD/DVD drive b/c I was only interested in the IPOD interface/display and bluetooth...guess I was wow'd by the beauty....

Yeah, that Eclipse unit is pretty sweet.

There is also the new Blaupunkt head units that do bluetooth and ipod that are fairly cheap and look real nice.

Also, I like the new units that just have a SD card slot for MP3's and such but I am still waiting for a chance to make my $25 ipod interface mod for my stock XT 6-disc HU.

If I could have my wish list:

-DDin Alpine DVD 7" touch panel w/ removal face piece (or false front stealth cover) w/ IPOD interface and bluetooth adapter
-Infinity Kappa components F&R
-Infinity Kappa 10" sub in small sealed box.
-2 alpine digital amps (4 channel and 2 channel)

That would be good enough for me (I know you can get better but that is good on a budget).

i really don't care about cd/dvd anymore. as long as the storage space is big enough im all for the move to digital media. companies like Microsoft are already pushing to do that anyways.

as for the head unit. it does indeed look cool. but it's useless to me since i don't own an ipod. (<3 iRiver) I'm robably the only guy on the face of this earth that is a mac user but wont buy an iPod

Steve's AVIC-D2 is sweet, and the tC has a 2xDIN cover. I'd rock a D3 if I wasn't so paranoid. :?

I just got the Alpine CDA-9857 which has iPod integration. I'm able to cycle through folders (artist, album, etc) and select songs alphabetically while still being able to play CD's and for over 100 dollars less...

It's kind of difficult to hide an expensive double-DIN head unit. So I'm guessing he's paranoid about someone seeing the D3 in his car and breaking in to steal it.

I can do without the DVD but I don't want to have to a gaping pockekt where the rest of my radio should be.

Duh, put a wonderfully useful three-jewel-case-holding slot there. GENIUS.

i think you 2 missed his point. he knows there would be room for a pocket there, but he (and i) are of the opinion that a double din slot occupied by a single din head unit and a gaudy plastic pocket = fail.
